Housekeeping Program:

This program is intended to maintain a safe working environment and can even be applied at
home. The program includes, but is not limited to, Maintenance, Storing, Waste Disposal, Spill
Control, and Organization.

To achieve this program, there are necessary steps to follow:

1. At the start of every day, it is important to clean the entire facility or home, to get rid of
any dirt or dust accumulated during the hours of inactivity. Starting the day with a clean
surrounding can stimulate productivity and will definitely set the mood for everyone.
2. Always make sure that disposal bins are cleared of any waste. Most of the time, people
forget to dispose of trash after the end of the day. It is important that trash is properly
disposed before the start of the day to avoid foul smell from filling the air.
3. Before starting on another work, dispose of unnecessary items or paper. Unused papers
can be reused and shall be stored properly, materials that are no longer needed shall be
disposed instantly in order to have a clean workplace. Always consult everyone in the
workplace or household first before disposing of anything.
4. Implement seiton. This means arranging necessary items in order of their use. This
makes it more efficient and easier for everyone to navigate the workplace. This can also
rid us of accidentally tipping things over that might be a hazard.
5. In relation to step 4, labeling materials that might cause confusion to people is a must.
There are things that people have not seen yet in their lives, they might mistake it for
something else and so labeling it helps everyone to know just exactly what is is for.
6. Occasionally sweep and make sure there isn’t any spilling from drinks. Cold beverages
“sweat” overtime and excess water from them might spill. If it spills on electric
equipment or even electric sockets, it might cause a malfunction, or worse, fire.
7. Seiketsu means maintaining high standards of housekeeping. This is an extra step to
make sure that everything is perfectly safe for everyone.
8. If anyone is free, they are encouraged to keep everything tidy without being told to do
so. They can simply arrange things that are decluttered during the day or arrange items
that are not in their right places.
9. At the end of the day, rechecking the condition of electric equipment is necessary. There
may be equipment that have been neglected during the day or have not been used, it is
important that they are cleaned to lengthen their lives and to ensure that the next time
they are used, it will work properly.
10. Finally, properly dispose of trash from trash bins. If forgotten, refer to step 2.
