Calculus 1 Differentiation of Implicit Functions

FURTHER IMPLICIT DIFFERENTIATION

An implicit function such as 3𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 − 5𝑥 + 𝑦 = 2, may be differentiated term by term with


respect to 𝑥. This gives:

Each term in turn is differentiated with respect to 𝑥:
