MODULE 1

INTRODUCTION TO CROP PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT & PRACTICES

Lesson 1 FACTORS AFFECTING CROP PRODUCTION

Analysis
A. Briefly discuss the questions below.

1. What is Crop production?

 define as is the art and science of the genetic improvement of crops to produce
new varieties with increased productivity and quality.

2. What are the benefits of knowing the different factors that may affect crop production?

 Crop production is a vital aspect of agriculture, serving as the backbone of our

food supply. Understanding the various factors that can affect crop production is
crucial for farmers and policymakers alike. By knowing these factors, we can
make informed decisions to maximize yields, ensure food security, and promote
sustainable farming practices. Ultimately, this knowledge contributes to ensuring
food security while minimizing environmental impacts in an ever-changing
world.
Application
A. Modified True or False Write your name if the answer is true and write my name if it says others
wise. Underline the word(s) that make the sentence false, supply and write the right word(s) after
each sentence.
1. Soil Organic matter is derived from the weathering of rocks.
2. Photo insensitive plants are those plants in which flowering are induced irrespective of duration of
light.
3. Loss of water from the plant is regulated by the opening and closing of the stomata.
4. Atmospheric humidity induces male and female tendency of a plant.
5. Environmental factors are internal factors such as temperature and soil which may affect crop
production.
6. Large animals cause damage to crop plants by grazing is an example of parasitism.
7. Soil air helps in the proper decomposition of organic matter.
8. Micro and macro organisms are non-living organisms considered as biotic factor in crop
production. 9. Tolerance to insect pests and diseases is an environmental factor which may affect
crop production. 10. Man cannot control environmental factors but can alter its effect.

B. Identification
Identify what type of Interactions between Biotic Factor is described below.
1. There is synergistic effect when different crops of cereals and legumes are grown together.
2. Goats feed on small tress which resulted to plant dwarfism.
3. Honey bees and wasps help in cross pollination and increases yield.
4. Competitive nature among field crops when grown together.
5. Insects and nematodes cause damage to crop yield and considered as harmful organisms.
6. A flowering plant does not bloom which is planted behind another plant.
7. The presence of ants gives white powdery substance in roses.
8. Presence of insects in plants which lead to the death of the plant.
9. Black spots in mango due to the presence of microorganisms.
10. Leaves of plants in grasslands mutates due to the feeding effect of zebras and other animals.
