INTERIM BUDGET

2024-25

Key Highlights

Capex for next year increased by 11.1%
to Rs.11.11 lakh crore.

FY25 fiscal deficit budgeted at 5.1% of


GDP. FY24 fiscal deficit pegged at
5.8% against the budgeted 5.9%.

Disinvestment target pegged at


Rs.50,000 crore for FY25, up from
Rs.30,000 crore in FY24.

INTERIM BUDGET VS. FULL BUDGET

Unlike a full-fledged budget that


encompasses an entire fiscal year, an
interim budget is a temporary financial
plan that bridges the gap until a new
government is formed.

Interim budget prioritize routine expenses


and ongoing programs while avoiding
significant policy changes or tax reforms.

Agriculture &
Food Processing
Nano DAP application on various
crops will be expanded across all
agroclimatic zones.

Promote private and public


investment in post-harvest activities,
such as modern storage, supply
chains, processing, marketing, etc.

Pradhan Mantri Matsaya Sampada


Yojana will be stepped up to
enhance aquaculture productivity,
double exports and generate more
employment opportunities. 5

Formulation of a comprehensive
programme to support dairy farmers,
leveraging existing schemes to
enhance productivity.

Railways &
Infrastructure
40,000 normal railway bogies will be
converted to Vande Bharat
standards.

Implementation of 3 major railway


corridor programmes under PM Gati
Shakti-to improve logistics efficiency
and reduce cost - Port connectivity
corridor, energy, mineral and cement
corridor and High traffic density
corridor.

Promotion of urban transformation


via Metro rail and NaMo Bharat.

Expansion of existing airports and


comprehensive development of new
airports under UDAN scheme.

Housing

Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana


(Grameen) additional 2 crore houses
will be built over next 5 years.

Housing for Middle Class scheme will


be launched to promote middle class
to buy/built their own houses

Tourism

Projects for port connectivity, tourism


infrastructure, and amenities will be
taken up in islands, including
Lakshadweep.

States will be encouraged to


undertake development of iconic
tourist centres to attract business
and promote opportunities for local
entrepreneurship.

Long-term interest free loans will be


provided to States to encourage
development.

Energy (EV)

Rooftop solarisation under PM


Suryoday Yojna that will benefit 1
crore households, providing up to
300 units of free electricity per month.

Viability gap funding for harnessing


offshore wind energy potential for the
initial capacity of 1 GW.

Entrepreneurship opportunities for


vendors and employment prospects
for youth skilled in manufacturing,
installation, and maintenance of
electric vehicles.

New scheme of biomanufacturing


and bio-foundry will be launched to
support environment friendly
alternatives.

Health

Encourage Cervical Cancer


Vaccination for girls (9-14 years).

Health cover under Ayushman Bharat


scheme will be extended to all ASHA,
Angawadi workers and helpers.

U-WIN platform for immunisation


efforts of Mission Indradhanush will
be rolled out.

Taxation

NO change in direct and indirect


taxes, including import duties.

Extension in the time limit for certain


tax benefits for start-ups and
investments made by sovereign
wealth funds/pension funds, and a
tax exemption for specific IFSC units
that expires on 31-Mar-2024. The
same has been extended up to 31-
Mar-2025.

Withdrawal of income tax demands


up to Rs.25,000 (till 2009-10) and
Rs.10,000 from 2010-11 to 2014-15. This
will benefit about 1 crore taxpayers.
