THE LYCEKUMER WORDS WISDOM FROM OUR FOUNDER, DR. MOHAN LAL GRERO “HE IS A WISE MAN WHO DOES NOT GRIEVE FOR THE THINGS WHICH HE HAS NOT, BUT REJOICES FOR THOSE WHICH HE HAS.” Epictetus, Philosopher- What price tag would ‘you’ put on a single minute of “your' life? Benjamin Franklin once said, ‘Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that is the stuff life is made of*. Steve Jobs observed, ‘It's really clear that the most precious resource we have is time’. This is the cue we get from many more thinkers through the centuries and it comes in one simple sentence -'your time is priceless’. You may not know me personally; | may never even meet you. | do not know which school you attend, your family back ground or your nationality. Each one of us is born with many differences, but everyone has 24 hours in a day. If time is the only fact that is divided equally among us, imagine how much more we can achieve. We must learn to value our time and be like the great people who have achieved much in life. If such is not the importance of time John F. Kennedy would not have said, ‘We must use time as a tool and not as a couch’. I'm sure some of these great people didn’t sit before their TV for hours on end or sit idly before the computer screen and wasted their precious time. Ret) a Every minute, every hour, every day is priceless... ‘Achievers’ value their time. Are you an achiever? The way you look at and value your time will tell you the answer. If we don't value our time, nobody else is going to. As we navigate the complexities of a new school term, I'm reminded of a meaningful story that carries a meaningful lesson for us all. In a small village nestled between rolling hills, there lived @ community that relied on a majestic ancient tree at its center. This tree symbolized strength, wisdom, and unity among the villagers. One day, a fierce storm swept through the village, threatening to uproot the beloved tree. Rather than succumbing to despair, the villagers rallied together. Each person played a role, whether it was reinforcing the roots, providing shelter, or simply offering words of encouragement. Through collective effort and unwavering determination, the commu only saved their cherished tree but emerged stronger and more connected than ever before. not This story serves as a gentle reminder that challenges are an inevitable part of our journey. It is during these moments of adversity that the strength of our community truly shines. As we face the uncertainties of the academic year, let us approach each obstacle with the same spirit of, collaboration and resilience. It wasn't just about chickens escaping; there were some real lessons in there. Firstly, it taught us that freedom isn't easy. Sure, it was awesome when the chickens broke free from the Tweedy farm, but then they faced new challenges. Freedom means choices, and sometimes those choices an be really tough. The movie also showed us that being free means being brave and helping others. Remember how Ginger ‘and Rocky risked everything to save their chick? They could've played it safe, but they knew doing the right thing mattered more. ao Real freedom is standing up for what you believe, even, when it's scary. But here's the reality: freedom isnt just about doing your thing. Sometimes, you've got to think about others too. Just like Rocky realized, helping your friends and family matters. Teamwork counts, even if you're a bunch of chickens. HAPPY NEW YEAR ‘And being free means being smart. Remember the tricks the chickens used to escape? They had to be clever and think outside the coop. So, when problems come your, way, think creatively and keep pushing through. Remember, freedom isn't just about fiying solo. It's about being bold, lending a hand, thinking for yourself, and finding clever ways to solve problems. And if things get overwhelming, remember your school counsellors are there to support you. Don't hesitate to reach out for guidance or even just to talk. “Let's make this our happy beginning”, just like Rocky said in the movie. Here's to a year of bravery, teamwork, smart thinking, and making the most of our freedom! It is especially Important for a student seeking special ‘education services, Parents play a vital role in the overall development of their child, a5 well as in supporting schools in collaboratively ensuring holistic growth and success. Parents have a unique understanding of thelr child and this plays an essential part in the development of academic support systems and plans, Together with ‘school, parents need to be actively involved. We can understand and empathise with the fact that being ‘a parent of a student with learning difficulties and/or behavioural and clinical diagnoses, can be challenging. ‘When parents proactively work with the school towards learning more about their child, these challenges can be overcome gradually. It's important to seek sound advice from specialists and educators and work towards implementing recommended strategies at home. Sharing updated documents with school also ensures that the relevant teachers can implement suggested techniques at school. ‘Strategies to promote development and support your child 1. Recognise your own _thoughts/biases/ misconceptions on special education. 2. Update yourself with research and learn more about your child's condition. ‘Appreciate your child for all thet they are. Do not focus on their limits. Look for their strengths and focus on the positives. Get to know your child, their personality and preferences, Consider the steps you can follow to promote their Independence and autonomy. Develop a growth mindset - focus on progress over perfection. Use Discipline- not punishment. Discipline helps with developing healthy habits long-term as the child can be made to understand the rationale for a consequence given. Separate the child from the behaviour. Remember, fo child is bad’ however all children are capable of making correct and incorrect decisions. When correcting your child’s behaviour make sure they know you still love them. Address the behaviour that needs to change. Spend quality time. As a family go out often and go out in public - supermarket/movies/park and other ‘outings. These create invaluable memories for the whole family. 10. Create opportunities for conversation/interaction between your child and their siblings/cousins/ family fiends. We have a shared responsibility in educating students. We know that when teachers and parents work together to support the learning and social/emotional needs of students, that students perform better in school.
