Introduction

Like all learning problems, difficulties in writing can be devastating to a child's

education and self-esteem. As children progress through school, they are increasingly expected

to express what they know about many different subjects through writing. If a child fails to

develop certain basic skills, he/she will be unable to write with the speed and fluency required

to excel as these demands increase. Indeed, for a child struggling with a writing problem, the

writing process itself interferes with learning. Students faced with such difficult odds have

trouble staying motivated. The goal of this study is to gain a greater understanding of the

reasons that cause Grade 9 students of Jose De Villa National High School to struggle with

composing a composition writing. Writing composition can be challenging due to various

factors that impact a student's ability to concentrate. Students often struggle with grammar

and vocabulary, which makes it difficult for them to compose written works. Practicing writing

is a must so that it will be easy to compose a writings.

This research will be conducted at Jose De Villa National High School. It is located at

Barangay Manguiring, Calabanga, Camarines Sur. This school has a population of 1,300 and is

headed by the OIC/School Head, Angel B. Belleza, Ph. D..

In his book Developmental Variation and Learning Disorders, Dr. Mel Levine identifies

the following neurodevelopmental problems and their potential impacts on writing. 1)

Attention Problems: difficulty getting started on writing assignments, easy distractibility during

writing tasks, mental fatigue or tiredness while writing, inconsistent legibility in writing uneven

writing tempo, many careless errors and poorly planned papers and reports, 2) Spatial and

Ordering Problem: poor use of lines on the paper, organizational problems, uneven spacing

between letters and many misspelled words, 3) Sequential Ordering Problem: poor letter

formation, transposed letters and spelling omissions, poor narrative sequencing and lack of

transitions, 4) Memory Problem: poor vocabulary, many misspelled words and frequent

capitalization, punctuation and grammar errors, 5) Language Problem: poor vocabulary,

awkward phrasing and unconventional grammar, inappropriate use colloquial language,

difficulty with sentence structure and word order, trouble reading back what is written and

difficulty with word sounds, spelling, and meanings, 6) Higher-order Cognition Problem: trouble

generating ideas or elaborating on them, difficulty developing and organizing ideas, lack of

opinion or sense of audience and difficulty with writing tasks that require creativity and/or

critical thinking, 6) Graphamotor Problem: write only very short passages, write exceptionally

slowly and with great effort, use an awkward pencil grip, lack fluidity in cursive writing and find

it hard to form letters. Many students make mistakes or experience problems as part of the

process of becoming better writers. They may reverse words, spell poorly, or have difficulty

producing their thoughts in writing. Writing deficits rarely occur in isolation, and improvements

in writing go hand in hand with the development of other non-writing specific skills. Thus, a

problem with the development in one of these areas is likely to interfere with a child's progress
as a writer. There is a significant body of literature on difficulties in writing composition. Studies

have explored factors such as writers block, lack of motivation, anxiety, and learning disabilities

that can contribute to writing difficulties. Other research has focused on strategies to improve

writing skills, such as the use of feedback, collaborative writing, and technology-based
