HCV Rapid Test Result Interpretation

A reactive HCV rapid test result indicates the presence of
antibodies against the Hepatitis C virus in the blood. This
suggests either a current or past HCV infection. Further con-
wrmation ,ith a supplemental testq such as an HCV RNA testq
is re(uired to determine if the infection is active )chronicx or
Reactive has been cleared by the immune system )resolvedx. If the
HCV RNA test is positiveq it indicates an active HCV infec-
tionq and appropriate medical evaluation and management
are necessary. If the HCV RNA test is negativeq it suggests
a resolved infectionq meaning that the individual has cleared
the virus and is no longer actively infected.
A non-reactive HCV rapid test result means that no antibodies
against the Hepatitis C virus ,ere detected in the blood sam-
ple. This result is typically seen in individuals ,ho have not
been e'posed to HCV or those ,ho have not been infected
,ith HCV in the past. Ho,everq itks important to note that dur-
Non-Reactive ing the ,indo, period )the time bet,een HCV infection and
the development of detectable antibodiesxq the rapid test may
sho, a non-reactive result even if an active HCV infection is
present. In such casesq follo,-up testing may be necessary
after a fe, ,ee6s to detect the antibodies.

HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGEN
TEST DESCRIPTION RESULT FLAG REF. RANGE UNIT
HBsAg -Hepatitis B surface antigen Non-Reactive

Interpretation:
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen ,ith Re~e' Conwrmation - Surface antigen usually appears in the serum after an incubation
period of 1 to months follo, ing e'posure to the Hepatitis B virus and pea6s shortly after the onset of symptoms. It typically
disappears ,ithin 1 to 3 months. The persistence of Hepatitis B surface antigen for greater than months is a prognostic
indicator of chronic Hepatitis B infection.
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Interpretation
Indicates the presence of Hepatitis B virus and active infec-
Reactive tion
Indicates the absence of Hepatitis B virus and no active in-
Non-reactive fection
