I. INTRODUCTION

To bring enlightenment on this concern, the country has provided improvement on the
management of solid waste through the proclamation of RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act that renders a comprehensive management program to ensure the protection
and safety of the community where the school is a part of it. Solid waste management plans and
policies are imposed to implement the program and could be adopted easily and seriously by the
public. And it has been gradually embraced by the different localities. One of these is the
Municipality of Maddela where it strictly implemented not only within each of its barangay in
general but also it targeted specifically its implementation within the different schools.
Since then during the previous years when our country is awakened to the dangers caused
by the mismanagement of wastes which is also experienced practically and observed by the
teachers and students of Balligui High School. There were chances where the school faced with
dealing with the accumulations of wastes which were not properly segregated and disposed. But
with the adaptation of the sustainable approach of the ESWM Program, it paved way to an
effective response and better outcome on the waste management needs of the school.

It is just normal that any activities of the students and school personnel generate waste
from time to time. So, the practice of proper waste segregation and disposal becomes a cycle of
their life and becomes a part of their day to day experiences. So instead of slashing it, better
strategies and techniques are adopted and practiced like recycling, composting, increnation and
land filling. The school also follows the continuous flow of setting goals and benchmarking from
good practices of other schools and community to help control the generation of waste.
As Balligui High School considers the implementation of ESWM Program as one the
school’s priority to address, learning and development, contested activities, and making
emphasis on school’s activities and meetings are some of the best ways to teach and remind the

The following are the activities of the ESWM team of Balligui High School:
1. PREPARATION OF TRASH BINS: During the opening of the school year, we prepared all
the trash bins in each classroom. we made it sure that they are properly labelled with stand cover
and color coded for the students to easily identify the category of the waste. We made it sure also
that there must be a special trash bins for the covid-19 waste, place in an area that is not
congested. Each classroom and office must have 6 trashbins. During the collection time we
made it sure that they are properly segregated before placing in the collection area for the
barangay to collect it and transport it in the SLF of the municipality. Un segregated waste will
not be collected as it is stated in the rules and regulation of the school, students will bring it
attend meetings conducted by the LGU specifically the MENRO Office. News and updates were
given during the meeting. The contest on the Best Implementer School were also discuss. The
criteria were updated and was agreed by all the coordinators both of the school and the barangay.
I also conducted a meeting to reports the updates from the local government office and to
ask help from my co workers in the preparation of the school in participating on the contest. To
remind the rules and regulation of the school with regards to eswm.
3. ECO-WALK. An activity of the school that helps in maintaining the cleanliness not only the
school but also the roads around the school. Students will walk around while talking with each
other while picking up trash that are scattered around. Doing this activity really minimize the
4. CLEAN UP DRIVE/ COMMUNITY SERVICE: Clean up drive is one of the programs of the
municipality which were fully supported by the school. During the scheduled time we made it
sure that we participated by simply cleaning the school surroundings. We also conducted a
community service by picking up trash around the barangay during the different programs of the
school.
ESWM OF THE MUNICIPALITY: We the BHSIANS participated in the said contest because
we believe that we are responsible enough in implementing waste management in our school.
The MENRO office conducted an technical assistance in every school last November 2022 for

them to share updates from the regional office with regards to implementation of the solid waste
management in every school. After the orientation they visited all the facilities of the school and
We then prepare the school for the pre evaluation that will be conducted on March 2023.
We made it sure that the school is always clean and in order, the facilities were ready to its
purpose. BHSIANS always move as one, as a result we were able to get the 100 points that was
based on the criteria given by the MENRO Office during the pre-evaluation.
We then continue all our activities to prepare the school for the final evaluation on May
2023. With the support of our school head, teachers, stakeholders and all the students we were
able to come up in the stage and to receive our awards as one among the 12 schools who
garnered a total of 100 points during the pre and final evaluation.
6. For the opening of the new school year 2023-2024, we together with the BHSIANS Family
ensure to it that we are continuing the different activities conducted to achieve clean and friendly
environment.
