Disk Re-Imaging Instructions for Fielded VisionMaster FT Workstations Revision 2.0
30 Jan 2008

1 SCOPE
The purpose of this document is to provide instructions for re-imaging VisionMaster FT
workstations in the filed from a Production VisionMaster disk image.

The Production VisionMaster disk image is a large single large file (1.5 to 3.0 Giga Bytes) which
has a “.GHO” file extension. This file contains the Windows XP operating system, the
VisionMaster FT application programs, and all the operating system tweaks to secure the system.
The system will have two accounts, a ServiceMode account and an OperatorMode account. The
disk image has been prepared so that Windows XP will have to be activated upon boot up.
Activation is normally done via internet or a telephone line. Activation via internet is automated
whereas activation by telephone is interactive and will take between 6-15 minutes.

2 PRE-REQUISITES
Before attempting to re-image a fielded workstation, the following items should be obtained,
some of which are needed during the re-imaging process.

# Item Usage
1 An external USB 3 ½ inch floppy drive. Re-imaging

2 An external USB Hard Drive of size 4 GB or larger. Preparation

Note: That you may use a 4 GB or larger USB Flash Drive instead, but be Re-imaging
aware that the re-imaging process will be slower by a factor of 8 to 20.

Ensure that you use a USB 2.0 device, this will make the process go
faster.
3 Ghost Boot Disks Re-Imaging

This is a set of two 3 ½ inch floppy disks that are used to boot from and
run the Ghost disk imaging software. Preparation

These can be obtained from Sperry Marine Charlottesville FED.

Alternatively you can obtain two defect-free 3 ½ inch floppy disks and
create the Ghost Boot Disks yourself using the Symantec Ghost 8.2 or
Norton Ghost 2003 software. (See item 4 below)

PLEASE NOTE THAT VMS-VT GHOST BOOT DISKS WILL NOT

WORK WITH THIS PROCEDURE, YOU WILL NEED TO CREATE A
SECOND SET OF DISKS.

This will have a part number with the format VMCnnn where nnn is Re-imaging
software version dependent.

This can be obtained from Sperry Marine Charlottesville FED

6 A personal computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or greater. Preparation

You will need this item only to create Ghost Boot Disks yourself and the
VisionMaster disk image to the external USB hard drive.

This computer should have at least one available USB 2.0 port, a 3 ½ inch
floppy drive, a DVD ROM drive,

You will not need to take this computer with you when making a service
call to re-image a VisionMaster workstation.

7 Telephone access for Windows XP Activation. Re-imaging

You will need to ensure that when you are on-board to do the service, you
have access to a telephone to call a number at Microsoft, which will be
provided to you during the activation process, to activate Windows XP for
the target computer. You need to ensure that the systems you will be
servicing have a valid and accessible Windows XP product key. You will
need the product keys printed on the label on the side of each
VisionMaster PC. The activation process will take between 6-15 minutes
per workstation. You will need to do this for all computers imaged.

WARNING
It is possible to inadvertently overwrite persisted data (radar maps, PI lines,
routes, etc...) if you login to the re-imaged node before other nodes on the bridge
are all up and running. Therefore, if there are multiple nodes in the system,
ensure that they are all up and running the VisionMaster FT application.

4.5 LOG IN USING SERVICE MODE

Log in on the newly re-imaged node using the ServiceMode account. Once fully logged in,
ensure that the node name and the IP address/configuration of the node are as expected. If not,
then take appropriate action to rename and reconfigure the node.

4.6 LOG IN USING OPERATOR MODE

When all other nodes are all up and they are all running the VisionMaster FT application, log in
on the newly re-imaged node using the OperatorMode.

The VisionMaster FT application will start up automatically. It will take a few minutes for the
persisted data to be copied to this node.

You may, at this time, copy charts from another node to this newly re-imaged node.

4.7 RE-IMAGE OTHER NODES IN THE SYSTEM

You may re-image other nodes in the system only after the persisted data and chart data (if
applicable) have been successfully copied to the newly re-imaged node.

To re-image another node, simply shut it down and follow the instructions in section 4 of this
document.
