1. The straight line 𝐿1 with slope −1 passes through 𝐴(−7, −1) and 𝐵(𝑘, 𝑘).
(a) Find the value of k.
(b) If the straight line 𝐿2 passes through 𝐵 and 𝐿2 ⊥ 𝐿1 , find the equation of
𝐿2 . [3]
2. The x-intercept and y-intercept of the straight line 𝐿: 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑦 + 30 = 0 are −5
and −6 respectively, where a and b are constants.
(a) Find the values of a and b.
(b) Find the slope of 𝐿 and find another line 𝐿2 ⊥ 𝐿 and pass through
𝐴(0, −20). [4]
3. The straight line 𝐿: 15𝑥 − 8𝑦 + 120 = 0 cuts the x-axis and the y-axis at the
points 𝐴 and 𝐵 respectively.
(a) Find the coordinates of 𝐴 and 𝐵.
(b) Find the perimeter of ∆𝑂𝐴𝐵 (Denote O with the origin) [3]
4. Find the equation of a line which passes through the point (2,3) and makes an
angle of 30° with the positive direction of x-axis. [2]
5. Find the two equations of diagonals of the square formed by the lines 𝑥 =
0, 𝑦 = 0, 𝑥 = 1, 𝑦 = 1. [3]
6. If the x-intercept and y-intercept of a line 𝐿 is the same, and it passes through
the point (1, −2), find the equation of 𝐿. [3]
7. Let a be a constant. The straight line 𝐿1 : 6𝑥 − 𝑦 + 𝑎 = 0 cuts the y-axis at
𝐴(0,6) and intersects the straight line 𝐿2 at 𝐵(−2, 𝑏). 𝐿2 cuts the y-axis at
𝐶 (0,9).
(a) Find the values of a and b.
(b) Find the equation of 𝐿2 . [4]
8. (Bonus 3 marks)
A moving point 𝑃 maintains an equal distance from 𝑀(0, −1) and the x-axis.
Find the equation of the locus of 𝑃.
