DANGER
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION OR ARC FLASH
• Do not use the Voltage Presence Indicator System (VPIS) as a Voltage Detecting System.
• When the ambient light is bright, it may be necessary to improve visibility by protecting the
indication lights.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.

The Voltage Presence Indicator System is a case with 3 built-in LEDs designed to indicate the
voltage presence: once the cables are energized, the voltage indicator LEDs should light up.
The plugs located under the cover joint allows the use of the phase concordance unit VPI62421.
Never inject any current or voltage signal in these plugs.
The indication of VPIS alone is not enough to ensure that the system is de-energized.
If the operating rules require this, then suitable voltage detectors in compliance with standard
IEC 61243 must be used.

Earthing of busbar section A

This operation has to be carried out as following:
• de-energize switchboard section A by rack-out all the circuit breakers on the half-switchboard
corresponding to the busbar section A:
• from cubicles 1-2 and from bus sectioning cubicle 3
• lock these circuit breakers in "test/disconnected" position:
• using the keylock placed in front of the racking device
• or using the keylock of the Earthing Switch operating mechanism box

Understanding the P2 operating mechanism

EasyPact EXE uses a stored energy type operating mechanism

DM106367.ai
that is independent of operator input, ensuring correct opening
and closing speeds.

Principle of operation:
The closing spring is charged, either manually or using
the Electrical motor MCH. The energy stored in the closing
spring is released using the XF coil or closing pushbutton. As
the mechanism closes the Earthing Device, the opening spring
is charged using the closing spring energy and the Earthing
Device is latched closed. To open the Earthing Device, the
opening spring energy has to be released; this is done using
the opening pushbutton.

Insertion and extraction of a Earthing Device

This section is describing the insertion and extraction operations of your device that can be used
during installation or maintenance phases into MCset cubicle.

Your withdrawable device will be shipped inside your MCset equipment and it will be in
"Disconnected/test" position.
In order to enable an easy extraction or insertion of the device in the circuit breaker compartment of
your cubicle, Schneider Electric recommends the use of an extraction table designed to carry
the device, locked in position, to its insertion point and adapted to your MCset equipment
configuration.

General use of Earthing Device

The Earthing Device allows to ground the busbar system during maintenance.
The Earthing Device has a making capacity in case of closing onto a ground fault.

LockOut TagOut procedures should be applied during maintenance operations to ensure the
Earthing Device closes normally with no current flow.

In exceptional circumstances, voltage could be present due to:

• errors or faults when isolating feeders, incomers & couplings
• voltage feedback from VT (residual voltage in windings)
• capacitor bank feedback (residual voltage in capacitors).

In these cases, there would be a closing on to fault with a corresponding ground fault current.

This ground fault is cleared by a protection and a circuit breaker situated upstream of the ground
fault.
During the ground fault, the Earthing Device, having closing and short-time withstand capabilities,
remains closed and is capable of withstanding the ground fault current.

The Earthing Device can close on to a short-circuit a limited number of times (Class E1:2 closing on
short circuit) above this it will be necessary to replace the Earthing Device.

In case of tripping of upstream VCB

Refer to the user guide of EasyPact EXE VCB.

Identify the cause of the tripping

Refer to the user guide of EasyPact EXE VCB.

In the event of a short circuit

• Inspect the EasyPact EXE VCB
• Check the general condition of the circuit breaker
• Check the general condition of the clusters.
• Inspect the EasyPact EXE Earthing Device
• Check the general condition of the Earthing Device
• Check the general condition of the clusters.

Restart the maintenance of the busbar.

After tripping causes have been identified and cleared the installation can be reset.
