INFORMED CONSENT

Title: Balancing Academics and Family: Analyzing the Impact of Academic Challenges on
Scientians’ Family Time Allocation

Researchers: Christian Wesley F. Buco, Marc Ivan V. Dimalaluan, Danilo S. Morada, Ralph
Vincent O. Serrano, Arthur Leonard M. Suyat, Maria Sophia M. Landingin, Jane Catherine
B. Yacat

I. Purpose
You are invited to participate in a study aimed to explore the experiences of junior high school
students at Quezon City Science High School about balancing their academic lives and their
time with family. You have been selected because the opinions, experiences, and beliefs you
may share would greatly contribute to our research in developing a greater understanding of the
various academic challenges affecting QCSHS junior high school students’ time allocation for
their families.

II. Procedure
If you decide to participate, you would be asked to sign this informed consent to show your
willingness to be included in this study. You will be asked to answer a pre-survey questionnaire
and be interviewed. At the end of the duration of the study, you will also be invited to check the
transcriptions of your interview for accuracy.

As a participant in this study, you will be asked about personal experiences you may have had
with the academic challenges affecting your time with family, as well as your thoughts and
opinions on different ways to balance academic life and family.

III. Risk and Benefits


There are no identifiable risks associated with participation in this study.

Participation may or may not benefit you personally. Overall, the researchers hope to be able to
use the information gathered from this study to serve as great insight as to how academic
challenges are affecting QCSHS students’ time with their families.

IV. Voluntary Participation and Withdrawal


Your participation in this study is voluntary. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part in
this study. After you sign the consent form, you are still free to withdraw at any time.
Withdrawing from this study will not affect the relationship you have, if any, with the researcher.

V. Confidentiality
The researchers would keep your record private to the extent allowed by law. Only the
researchers will have access to the information you provide. Information may also be shared
with those who make sure the study is done correctly – Levine Dave Nacino, research teacher
of QCSHS.

Your names will not be exposed to other persons. The surveys and interviews will be conducted
anonymously, so there will be no information that can point directly to you when the researchers
present this study and publish its results. The findings will be summarized and reported in group
form. You will not be identified personally.

the information you provide will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
