Aim :
To verify the algebraic identity
(𝒂 + 𝒃)𝟑 = 𝒂𝟑 + 𝒃𝟑 + 𝟑𝒂𝟐 𝒃 + 𝟑𝒂𝒃𝟐

Materials Required

i ) Mecabricks - Digital lego Platform

i i ) Graph Paper
iii ) Glue , Set squares.

Procedure :

i) Make a cube of side ‘𝑎’ units and one

more cube of side ′𝑏 ′ units ( b < a )
ii) Similarly make 3 cuboids of
dimensions 𝑎 × 𝑎 × 𝑏 & 3 cuboids of
dimensions 𝑎 × 𝑏 × 𝑏
iii) The cubes and cuboids are arranged
as shown in the observation .

cubes verifies LHS and RHS of identity .

Calculation :
i) Volume of the cube of side
a = 𝑎 × 𝑎 × 𝑎 = 𝒂𝟑
ii) Volume of the cube of side
b = b × 𝑏 × 𝑏 = 𝒃𝟑

iii) Volume of the cuboid of dimensions

𝑎 × 𝑎 × 𝑏 = 𝒂𝟐 𝒃

iv) Volume of the three such cuboid
is 𝟑𝒂𝟐 𝒃
v) Volume of the cuboid of side

is 𝟑𝒂𝒃𝟐
