Area of Triangle

EXP . NO : 07

Aim :
To Show that the area of a Δ is half the product of its breadth (b) and
Height (h).

Materials Required :

 Patty Paper
 Pencil
 Scissors

Procedure :

 Let us 1st find the area of a right Δ.

 Draw a right angled Δ ABC on patty paper by using a pencil and cut it
with scissors.
 Draw another right Δ DEF on patty paper by using a pencil and cut it .
 Align the hypotenuse of the two Δ.
 Let us now find the formula for the area of an acute angled Δ .
 Cut an acute angled Δ ABC on a patty paper and move the vertex C along
BC till the fold passes through the vertex A and crease it along that line.
 The crease so formed is the perpendicular to BC from the vertex A . Mark
crease with the pencil to draw the perpendicular to BC from vertex A.
 Cut out another Δ DEF congruent to the Δ ABC and cut it along the
perpendicular using scissors.
 Align the hypotenuse of these cut – outs of the Δ ABC .
 Next we will find the formula for the area of obtuse angled Δ.
 Draw an obtuse angled Δ ABC on a patty paper by using a pencil and cut
it with scissors.
 Repeat the above step to get another Δ DEF congruent to obtuse angled
Δ ABC.
 Align greatest side of two Δ ‘s.
Observation :

 Two Congruent Δ aligned in a specific way forms a parallelogram.

 Thus area of 2 similar triangles = area of parallelogram.

= base × height

 Therefore area of Δ = area of parallelogram

= × 𝑒 × ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑔ℎ

Conclusion :

 Area of a Δ is half the product of its base and height .
