Exp - 2 / Class X Mathematics Laboratory
AY 22 – 23 Arithmetic Progression - 1

Procedure :

i) Let the first sequence be

𝒂𝟏 , 𝒂𝟐 , 𝒂𝟑 , 𝒂𝟒 , ….
ii) Calculate 𝒂𝟐 - 𝒂𝟏 , 𝒂𝟑 - 𝒂𝟐 , 𝒂𝟒 - 𝒂𝟑 , …..

iii) It is observed that

𝒂𝟐 - 𝒂𝟏 = 𝒂𝟑 - 𝒂𝟐 = 𝒂 𝟒 - 𝒂𝟑 = 𝒅
where d is common difference .

AY 22 – 23 Arithmetic Progression - 1

Procedure :

iv) Let the second sequence be

𝒃𝟏 , 𝒃𝟐 , 𝒃𝟑 , 𝒃𝟒 , ….
v) Calculate 𝒃𝟐 - 𝒃𝟏 , 𝒃𝟑 - 𝒃𝟐 , 𝒃𝟒 - 𝒃𝟑 , …..

vi) It is observed that

𝒃𝟐 - 𝒃𝟏 = 𝒃𝟑 - 𝒃𝟐 = 𝒃𝟒 - 𝒃𝟑 = 𝒅
where d is common difference .

Exp 1 / Class X Mathematics Laboratory
AY 22 – 23 Arithmetic Progression - 1
Calculation :
Sequences are 5 , 7 , 9 , 11 , 13 , 15 , . . . . .
𝒂𝟐 - 𝒂𝟏 = 𝒂𝟑 - 𝒂𝟐 = 𝒂𝟒 - 𝒂𝟑 = 𝒂𝟓 − 𝒂𝟒 = 𝒅
7 – 5 = 9 – 7 = 11 – 9 = 13 – 11 = 15 – 13 = 2

The common difference is equal for all the terms ,

∵ the sequence of numbers is an A.P .
Sequences are 1 , 4 , 8 , 7 , 9 , 11 , . . . . .

𝒃𝟐 - 𝒃𝟏 ≠ 𝒃𝟑 - 𝒃𝟐 ≠ 𝒃𝟒 - 𝒃𝟑 ≠ 𝒃𝟓 − 𝒃𝟒 ≠ 𝒅
4 – 5 ≠ 7 – 8 ≠ 9 – 7 ≠ 11 – 9
The common difference is not equal for all the terms ,
∵ the sequence of numbers does not forms an A.P .
