PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

Introduction

This chapter presented the results and discussion of the findings, analysis and

interpretation of data gathered from working on the study entitled “Factors Affecting the

Teaching - Learning Process in the Senior High School Department Under the New

Normal in Vinzons Pilot High School ”.

1. Profile of both Teachers and Students Respondents in study entitled Factors

Affecting the Teaching - Learning Process in the Senior High School Department

Under the New Normal in Vinzons Pilot High School.

In knowing the profile of the respondents, the researchers created a multiple-

choice question that the respondents selected only one per question base on their

profile. The part containing two information their age and gender. The succeeding

paragraphs illustrated the profile of the students and teachers in the selected schools

in the locale cited.

a. Age percentage of Students

Age percentage refers to the number of age that was in same number of same

age where handing a same specific number of age. Table 3 below depicts the age of

frequency of or 30%.

2. The Factors Affecting the Teaching – Learning Process of Grade 12 Academic

Strands Students and Teachers in Vinzons Pilot High School.

6

In knowing the factors affecting the teaching learning process of students and

teachers of Grade 12 Academic Strands the Researchers conducted likert scale

questions that shows the factors that may encounter in teaching learning process

Table 8

The table 8 shows the extent level of agreement as shown on the table above

has 4 scale. For the 4th scale, it has a range of 3.26-4.00 and interpreted as Strongly

Agree (SA). The 3rd scale has a range of 2.51-3.25 and with Agree (A) interpretation.

For the 2nd scale and interpreted as Slightly Disagree (SDA), has a range of 1.76-2.50.

And lastly, the 1st scale has a range of 1.00-1.75 and interpreted as Strongly Disagree

(SD).

5.Lack of educational gadgets 2.66 6 Agree

6.Lack of motivation 2.91 3 Agree

7.Classroom environment 2.93 1 Agree

Table 9

According to the results from the table above, all of the factors were agreed by

the respondents. First the factor number 1, which is ‘’ class size ”, 2 nd “Shifting of

classes”, 3rd is “ Schedules of classes ”, the 4 th is “ Financial Problems”, the 5th factors

is “lack of educational gadgets”, the 6 th is “lack of motivation”, and Lastly “ classroom

environment”.

Based on the result, the indicator/factor with the highest weighted mean of 2.93

is the "classroom environment". This is because of what is happening around a

8

students, for example here is the attitude that exists inside the classroom that can

cause chaos in their section when they are studying. Although there are students who

do this as a way to speed up their studies, many of them still have problems because of

it. Based on the study of Hannah et al. (2013). A classroom can be set up in a way that

stifles creativity or does not promote a positive learning environment. There are many

things that can affect this environment. There are physical elements such as wall art,

arrangement of desks, or resources. Also, there are intangible elements such as the

energy of the classroom, the rules, or the sounds within the room. Each of these can

impact a student's focus and achievement in the class. They can also affect a teacher's

attitude in the class. Included in each of these elements of the classroom is the

emotional environment. The way in which a teacher organizes their class, or how they

control it, will yield positive or negative consequences for their students.

On the other hand, the indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean of 2.58

is the “shifting of classes”, for the reason that the students in Vinzons Pilot High School

wasn’t move into another classroom when they are changing subjects, but then the

teachers do it for them when it's time for their subject. Another reason for this is the

manageability of the students in dividing the time for all the subjects they have. And

because of this, we found out that out of 7 factors, “shifting of classes ” was the lowest

factor that affected the teaching learning process of the students.

Table 10

The table 10 present the Factors Affecting the Teaching Learning Process of

Teachers. Based on the result above, all of the factors were agreed by the respondents.

First the factor number 1, which is ‘’Preparation of subject”, 2 nd “Schedule of classes”,

3rd is “Shifting of classes”, the 4 th is “Class size”, and the last factors is “Behavioral

problems of the students“

According to the result above, the indicator/factor with the highest weighted

mean of 2.95 are both “Preparation of lesson” and “Behavioral problems of students“.

Based on Prof. Alma (2021). One of the hardest aspects of teaching is that “you only

have them for a short period of time to prepare them for the next level. You do the best
10

you can when you have them, but in the scope of things, you have only a small amount

to give them what they need”. Planning can make learning take place systematically.

The learning process does not take place soberly, but takes place in a directed and

organized manner. Thus the teacher can use time effectively to achieve learning

objectives and learning success. This can take place through good learning planning.

Learning planning includes the activity of formulating goals to be achieved in a learning

activity, the methods used to assess the achievement of these goals, the material to be

presented, how to convey it, the preparation of the tools or media used.

Meanwhile, when the teachers have acquired the knowledge that they should

know and teach to the students, one of the obstacles in their teaching is the behavior

problems of their students. How can a students learn and how can the teachers teach in

the rightful way if they students can’t cooperate. And because of this, the researcher

found out the reason why “preparation of lessons” and “behavioral problems of

students“ are the main factors affecting the teaching learning process of teachers.

On the other hand, the indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean of 2.34

is the “shifting of classes“. This is because, a teacher’s job is to teach. They already

know that the shifting of classes is part of the factors affecting the teaching learning

process‚ perhaps some are still struggling because of it.

Factors affecting the teaching learning process in terms of physical facilities

12

The table 12 present the Factors Affecting the Teaching Learning Process in

terms of physical facilities of students. Based on the result above, all of the factors were

agreed by the respondents. The 1st factors is “Power shortage”, the 2 nd is “Unhygienic

restroom”, 3rd is “Dirty surroundings”, 4th is “Damaged chairs and tables”, the 5th is “lack

of proper ventilation”, and the last is “lack of availability of teaching – learning

materials”.

According to the result above, the indicator/factor with the highest weighted

mean of 2.97 is the “Dirty surroundings”. In a report entitled ‘Cleanliness and Learning

in Higher Education’, that was conducted by Jeffrey Campbell, Ph.D, chair of the

facilities management program at Brigham Young University. It showed that the level of

cleanliness has a direct impact on the ability to learn. The level of cleanliness and

hygiene in a building has a significant effect on the mind set of students. A dirty,

neglected environment can increase stress levels and therefore impact negatively on

concentration and retention. An unhygienic environment can cause illnesses from

person to person, but also to lecturers, which causes disruption to the course.

Meanwhile, the indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean of 2.75 is the

“power shortage“. This is because, the lack of access to energy greatly reduces the

teaching resources and classroom materials. Since many students are need to use

electricity based utilities in school as a guide with their studies, and a few students

along with teachers have been getting distracted by fans or lights that don't work. By

this, it affects the discussion and concentration of the learners. As a result, teachers are

unable to provide their students with the quality of education they deserve. Though it is

one of the factors, still “power shortage“ resulted as the lowest weighted mean.

Factors affecting the teaching learning process in terms of physical facilities

The table 13 present the Factors Affecting the Teaching Learning Process in

terms of physical facilities of teachers. According on the result above, all of the factors

were agreed by the respondents. Just like the factors in table 12 the 1 st factors is

“Power shortage”, the 2nd is “Unhygienic restroom”, 3rd is “Dirty surroundings”, 4th is

“Damaged chairs and tables”, the 5th is “lack of proper ventilation”, and the last is “lack

of availability of teaching – learning materials”.

Based on the result above, the indicator/factor with the highest weighted mean of

3.30 is the “lack of proper ventilation”. This is because it distracts the teacher and

makes them "lose" their words. they also have the tendency to not be able to properly

express what they want to deliver if they can't even breathe properly due to exhaustion
14

when it comes to air‚ headaches and some also experience fatigue because of the

improper ventilation. According to Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, poor

ventilation leads to reduced attention span, which affects learning and makes pupils

more prone to making errors. This can lead, in turn, to lower academic performance.

The inability to focus is a recognized problem for both students and teachers. In surveys

conducted in the US, poor indoor air quality was the most common facilities problem

reported by teachers. Facilities, including ventilation, have been cited as a critical factor

in teaching quality.

On the other hand, the indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean of 2.26

is the “unhygienic restroom“. In the report entitled “How Dirty Restrooms Can Negatively

Impact Student Health and Learning”, when students avoid unsanitary and smelly

restroom facilities, it can create a variety of problems. Students may be tardy after

searching out a cleaner restroom. They may avoid eating or drinking so as not to use

the restroom during school. They may even “hold it” for long periods of time, which can

lead to LUT and gastrointestinal health issues, as well as decreased focus and poorer

learning outcomes, though unhygienic restroom was part of the factors affecting the

teaching learning process, this factor resulted as lowest with weighted men of 2.26.
15

3. The possible recommendations to further improve the teaching – learning

process of the teachers and students of Grade 12 Academic Strands.

This contains the result of the survey questionnaire part III which is the

recommendations that the respondents already scaled from 1-4 coming from the

teachers and students respondents of grade 12 academic strands

The researchers created a Likert scale each factors the respondents must scale

them by 1-4. Table 7 this contains the rage and the interpretation of the data.

The survey's findings indicate that of all the recommendations for the given

factors, there is only one that has a high weighted mean with an average of 3.50

interpreted as strongly agreed by the respondents.

Since, our study is about the factors that affect learning and teaching, the

researcher gave a recommendation for each factor. Each of these factors has an equal

part in how the classroom functions and how the students learn, says Education

Secretary Nicky Inglis. There are many factors that can affect the teaching-learning

process. These include the community and the environment of the student, the

classroom and the individual characteristics of each student. The research believe that

each of these factors has an equal part in how the classroom functions and how the

students learn. The community a child grows up in can greatly affect how they perform

in the classroom, students have at least more patient at listening to the discussion of the
18

teacher no matter what the factors may affect it. They can also a bond with each other

to create a unity in the classroom to avoid some factors that can cause them to lose

their attention to listen. And as all cited above can be a solution for this factors.

Since teachers are one of the respondents of this study, the factors that affect

their teaching that result in students not listening are also indicated in another table. in

table 18, recommendations or possible solutions of these problems are indicated. after

all teachers should be responsible for teaching because that was their job. Whatever

the obstacle is, they must solve it in a way that only they can do. Teachers’ time

management must start with setting priorities and organizing the day around the most

important tasks. As a teacher they must have a long patience in teaching, they must be

The table above shows the factors affecting the teaching learning process in

terms of physical facilities. Both respondents were given a recommendation since they

both experience this type of problem. This shows the survey’s findings indicate that of

all the recommendations for the given factors, there is only one that has a high weighted

mean with an average of 3.55 interpreted aa strongly agreed by the respondents.

Since both teachers and students are experiencing the given factors, we

combine the result and we found out that in terms of unhygienic restroom problem, they

agreed that student and teacher must be responsible for using the rest room as a

solution to lessen the dirtiness of that surrounding.

the study which is to probe on the “Factors Affecting the Teaching – Learning Process

in the Senior High School Department Under the New Normal in Vinzons Pilot High

School ”.

This study was conducted at Vinzons Pilot High School. The respondents were

the students and teachers of Grade 12 academic strands. The respondents selected

using stratified sampling. The mean and frequency counts were used in statistical tool to

determine the result of the answered questionnaire.

Summary of the Findings

This study’s result were summarized according to the Chapter 1 statement of the

problem

1. What are the socio-demographic profile of the respondents?

a. Age

From all 112 students respondents from grade 12 academic strand 100%l of the

students are at the age of 17-20 years old. And outt of 23 respondents from the Grade

12 teachers, 7 or 30% are at the age of 25-30 years old, 6 or 26% are at the age of 31-

35, 4 or 17 % are 36- 40 years old, 5 or 2% are at the age of 41-50 and 1 or 4% are at

the age of 51 above.

b. gender
24

The data reveal that out of 112 respondents, 34 or 30% are males and 77 or 69%

are females. This shows that the majority of students were female, with a frequency of

77 or 69%, compared to male students, who had a frequency of 34 or 30%. And out of

23 respondents from the teachers, 5 or 30% are males and 16 or 69% are female, this

shows that the majority of teachers were female, with a frequency of16 or 69%,

compared to male teachers, who had a frequency of or 30%.

2. The Factors Affecting the Teaching – Learning Process of

Grade 12 Academic Strands Students and Teachers in Vinzons Pilot High

School.

At the first table in statement of the problem 2, highest weighted mean of 2.93 is

the “classroom environment” and the indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean

of 2.58 is the “shifting of classes”. While in the second table, the indicator/factor with the

highest weighted mean of 2.93 is the “classroom environment” and the indicator/factor

that got the lowest weighted mean of 2.34 is the “shifting of classes“. Next part if the

physical facilities that both students and teachers is affecting. In the first table of this

part, the indicator/factor with the highest weighted mean of 2.97 is the “Dirty

surroundings”, Meanwhile, the indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean of

2.75 is the “power shortage“ while in the result for students, the indicator/factor with the

highest weighted mean of 3.30 is the “lack of proper ventilation”. On the other hand, the

indicator/factor that got the lowest weighted mean of 2.26 is the “unhygienic restroom“

3. The possible recommendations to further improve the

teaching – learning process of the teachers and students of Grade 12

Academic Strands.
25

Overall factors, there are only one recommendation for students that has a high

weighted mean of 3.50 interpreted as strongly agreed by the respondents. Which is

students should be active and focus to the discussion in the factor class size. For the

teachers, a recommendation with high weighted mean of 3.73 interpreted as strongly

agreed by the respondents that is teacher should Integrating technology into their

teaching such as television, projector and other technologies that may helps them.

Teaching with technology can deepen student learning by supporting instructional

objectives. There also in terms of physical facilities, this shows the survey’s findings

indicate that of all the recommendations for the given factors, there is only one that has

a high weighted mean with an average of 3.55 interpreted aa strongly agreed by the

respondents.

Conclusion

The following conclusions were drawn, as a result of the mentioned findings.

1. The respondents are Strongly Agreed that improves the attendance in studies

to classes is the one of the impact of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program to the study

habits of the students.

2. From the result of the factor that got the lowest mean which is to improve

performance is not much impact in the study habits effect from Pantawid Pamilyang

Pilipino Program.
26

3.The respondents recommended from the result in likert scale question in

recommendation is to Save money in case emergency that used for school needs for

the respondents this is the most recommended factor to the effect of study habits to

students from 4PS.

4. From the least favor factor from the recommendations is they need to maintain

their grades, Although this factor is still recommended it still the lowest rank in the

recommendations.

Recommendation

This study reveals the Factors Affecting the Teaching - Learning Process in

the Senior High School Department Under the New Normal in Vinzons Pilot High

School. Thus, The recommendations that follow are presented below.

Recommendation for students

1. The researcher recommended that every students should be active and focus

to the discussion in order to gain a deeper understanding of the material being taught,

make meaningful contributions to the conversation, and become more engaged in the

learning process.

2. The researcher recommended that every students should be on time and

attending classes as often as possible is important for students to get the most out of

their education. When students are late or miss classes, they miss out on valuable
27

instruction and the opportunity to learn new material. Arriving late can disrupt the flow of

the class.

3. The researcher recommended that every students should come early to school

so they won't be late for classes if their house is far away from school, coming to school

early will give students the extra time they need to make sure that they don't arrive late

for their classes. If a student lives far away from school, they may need to leave extra

early in order to account for traffic, weather, or any other potential delays.

4. The researcher recommended that every students should avoid spending

money on unnecessary things because it can quickly add up and leave them with less

money for more essential items.

5. The researcher recommended that every students should save money to the

school needs like project, activities, assignment etc, saving money for school needs is

important for students because it can help them save for the necessary supplies and

materials needed for projects, activities, and assignments.

Recommendation for teachers

1. The researcher recommended that schools must have enough capacity

teachers to reduce the shifting classes of the students because having too many

students in one classroom can be damaging to the learning process. When classes are

overcrowded, it can be difficult for teachers to manage and provide individual attention

to each student, it can also lead to a decrease in the quality of education as students

struggle to understand the lesson due to the lack of one-on-one time with the teacher.
28

By providing enough capacity teachers, schools can ensure that students receive the

best possible education, without having to resort to shifting classes.

2. The researcher recommended that every teacher should make an interesting

strategy to get the attention of students to focus on discussion whether they are many

or few, this is because it helps to engage the students and keep their attention focused

on the discussion. When students are engaged, they are more likely to retain

information and be more interested in the material, an interesting strategy can help to

break up the monotony of a long lecture and make it more enjoyable for the students. It

can also help to create a more dynamic and engaging learning environment, as

students will be more likely to participate in the discussion if they are interested in it.

In terms of physical facilities

1. The researcher recommended that every teacher and student should turn off

the lights in the room if it is empty no matter the time of the day, turning off the lights in

an empty room helps conserve energy, which is an important part of protecting the

environment. It also saves money for the school.

2. The researcher recommended that every teacher and student should use LED

lighting is energy efficient because it consumes less energy than traditional lighting,

resulting in lower energy costs. LED lighting also lasts longer, reducing the need to

replace bulbs and resulting in lower maintenance costs. Additionally, LED lighting
