Various ethical dilemmas involving the
use of technological devices.
Misuse or invention to produce bad
results.

on televisions, mobile phones, laptops or

ROBOTICS AND
HUMANITY
ROBOT
An actuated mechanism programmable in
two or more axes with a degree of autonomy
moving within its environment, to perform
intended tasks.

Autonomy- ability to perform intended task

based om current state and sensing without
human intervention.
SERVICE ROBOT
A robot that performs useful task for
humans or equipment excluding industrial
application.
A robot may be classified according to its
intended application as an industrial robot
or service robot.
PERSONAL
SERVICE ROBOT
Service robot for personal use.
Used for noncommercial task, usually for
laypersons.

EXAMPLES:
Domestic servant robot, automated wheelchair,
vacuum, cleaner robot, lawn mower robot, etc.
PROFESSIONAL
SERVICE ROBOT
Service robot for professional use.
Used for commercial task, usually operated
by a proper trained operator.

EXAMPLES:

ROLES PLAYED BY ROBOTICS

handling robot employed in industrial
production work.
ISAAC ASIMOV
“FATHER OF ROBOTICS”

An American writer and professor of

biochemistry at Boston University.
Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of
Robotics”
THREE LAWS OF
ROBOTICS
THREE LAWS OF ROBOTICS
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through
inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings
except when such orders would conflict with the first
law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such
protection does not conflict with the first or second law.
ETHICAL
DILEMMAS FACED
BY ROBOTICS
SAFETY
1. Who should be held accountable if someone’s
safety is compromised by a robot?
2. Who should be blamed, the robot, the agent
using the robot, or the maker/inventor of the
robot?
EMOTIONAL COMPONENT
1. It is not completely impossible for robots to
develop emotions.
2. What if robots become sentiment?
3. Should they be granted robot rights?
MORAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES
IN ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
Individuals and organizations use technology to
enhance their daily operations, be it business,
learning, construction, or medical activities.
Advancement in technology does not elicit ethical
or moral issues, but it is the use of technological
inventions that raises these issues.
