and community members,

Please join the Family and Community Engagement

Office at Broward County Public Schools for the Third
Annual Family Fun Day – A Celebration of Community
Resiliency - on Sunday, December 17th at Delevoe
Park in Fort Lauderdale starting at 1 p.m.

There will be dancing, music, food, games, gifts for

the first 500 children, and more surprises for the entire
family. The event is FREE! See the flyer below and

Learning never exhausts the mind

Since 1976, countless hours have been devoted to learning about the Broward County school system and
trying to improve that system on a volunteer basis – This is how the School Advisory Forum started, and
these are some of the highlights discussed earlier in the South Area this month (click on the links below
to learn more):
Multilingual Program
Advisory Committee- children
can pursue a Biliteracy
Seal/Certificate upon High
School Completion.
Dual Language Program-
there are 27 elementary schools
in Broward County that offer
dual language. There were more
than 45 before Covid. Dual
language kids outperform gifted
kids in overall testing. There
has been data for a few years.
Development of French
Language Programs- having
difficulty in finding suitable
teachers that can pass the tests
to be able to teach both
languages successfully.
Access to the Dual Language
Programs- parents can opt for
School Choice to enter into any
of the 27 schools, but if school
is at max capacity, then that
only leaves residents within
school zone to benefit from the
program.

Advisory Council Meeting
(12/13/2023)
Paper-based testing- in lieu
of computer testing, as an IEP.
Mace- self-defense pepper
spray- School Board Policy
#5100 allows students to carry
2 oz of Mace, as long as it’s
hidden and not used in threat
situations. The current School
Board Policy for how to
reprimand a student who is
caught with Mace during a
random search, needs to be
revised.

Estudiantes, familias, personal y miembros de la

comunidad de las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de

Únase a la Oficina de Participación Familiar y Comunitaria

de las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Broward para el
Tercer Día Anual de Diversión Familiar, una
celebración de la resiliencia comunitaria, el domingo 17
de diciembre en Delevoe Park en Fort Lauderdale a partir
de la 1 p.m.

Habrá baile, música, comida, juegos, regalos para los

primeros 500 niños y más sorpresas para toda la

El aprendizaje nunca agota la mente

Desde 1976, se han dedicado innumerables horas a aprender sobre el sistema escolar del Condado de
Broward y tratar de mejorar ese sistema de forma voluntaria – Así es como comenzó el Foro Asesor
Escolar, y estos son algunos de los aspectos más destacados discutidos anteriormente en el Área Sur
este mes (haga clic en los enlaces a continuación para obtener más información):
Comité Asesor del Programa
Multilingüe- los niños pueden
obtener un Sello/Certificado de
Alfabetización Bilingüe al
finalizar la escuela secundaria.
Programa de Lenguaje Dual-
hay 27 escuelas primarias en el
condado de Broward que
ofrecen lenguaje dual. Había
más de 45 antes del Covid. Los
niños bilingües superan a los
niños superdotados en las
pruebas generales. Hay datos
desde hace unos años.
Desarrollo de programas de
lengua francesa- Tener
dificultades para encontrar
profesores adecuados que
puedan superar las pruebas
para poder enseñar ambos
idiomas con éxito.
Acceso a los Programas de
Lenguaje Dual- Los padres
pueden optar por School Choice
para ingresar a cualquiera de
las 27 escuelas, pero si la
escuela está al máximo de su
capacidad, eso solo deja a los
residentes dentro de la zona
escolar para beneficiarse del
programa.

Consejo Asesor Distrital

Pruebas en papel- en lugar
de pruebas computarizadas,
como un IEP.
Mace- spray de pimienta de
defensa personal- La Política
#5100 de la Junta Escolar
permite a los estudiantes llevar
2 onzas de Mace, siempre y
cuando esté oculta y no se use
en situaciones de amenaza. La
política actual de la Junta
Escolar sobre cómo reprender
a un estudiante que es
sorprendido con Mace durante
una búsqueda aleatoria, debe
ser revisada.
