Specific lyric text Figurative Language
“And some of us sail through our troubles” Metaphor

sentence.
The sentence “sail through our troubles” is a metaphorical sentence because it means to
brush off our problems. This metaphor uses “sail” to indicate that we navigate through
problems easily. We don’t actually sail through our problems but this a phrase that indicates
that it’s rather easy to handle our problems so it is a metaphor.

ethos.
Lyric Rhetorical Appeal
“And some have to live with the scars” Pathos

sentence.
This lyric is an example of pathos, because the use of certain words like “scars” can evoke
feelings in the viewer, evoking a sense of empathy and compassion. This sentence indicates
that while other people find it easy to brush of their problems other might live with it their
whole life, so in conclusion, this lyric can appeal to the audience’s emotions.
