Content feedback:
- When it is an essai argumenté, make sure you are arguing a point, and not simply describing.
- Write objectively and confidently (no ‘je pense que c’est peut-être…’)
- Avoid repetition.
Look for links between the ideas you have generated in your ‘brainstorming’ around
the title - do most of the ideas support the argument? Are there some which are more
important than others? How can your ideas be divided into groups?
Based on this, you could structure around:
1. thèse-antithèse-synthèse: you consider the arguments for a certain point, those
against, and then give a critical view which goes beyond the simple opposition of
ideas and shows how the complexity of the issues transcends a yes/no, black/white
response.
2. Thematic: taking one key theme or element per paragraph
Language feedback:
- Avoid colloquialisms
- Be concise
- Pay attention to tenses / articles / other grammar points noted in your feedback
- Read examples of essays e.g. Opinion pieces in newspapers (or online) to begin to imitate that style.
