CASE SYNOPSIS

On July 19, 2023 at approximately 8:59 p.m. Police learnt from complainant Julie GEDDES that
Victor JANNERT was in possession of a sawed-off firearm, located at Basement Unit, 42
Evergreen Crescent in the City of Kitchener. The residence is a single dwelling residence where
JANNERT resides in the basement unit and GEDDES resides in the upper main floor unit.

Police formed grounds to arrest Victor JANNERT for Possession Contrary to Order, Careless
use/storage of firearm, Unauthorized possession of a firearm, and Possession of firearm knowing
it is unauthorized.

As of 00:59 a.m., July 20th, Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) patrol and Emergency
Response Unit contained the residence of 42 Evergreen Crescent - Police arrested JANNERT.

At 6:10AM, a Search Warrant was executed on the residence. Upon searching the residence, the
numerous items were located and seized in the basement unit. The following items were of
forensic value:

Exhibit DC001 – sawed-off rifle COOEY model 64 .22 cal semi-auto. No serial number. (seal no.
003969)

Exhibit DC002 – COOEY model 600 .22 cal bolt action rifle with serial number CG065664. (seal
no. 003967)

Exhibit DC003 – ITHACA X5 Lightning semi-automatic rifle with its stock removed and serial
number grinded off but recovered as: 22589-A. (seal no. 003968)

Exhibit BLACKPOWDER – approximately 1.9g of suspected black gun powder. (sealed in

evidence bag no. GL14408426)

DC001, DC002 and DC003 to determine if they are working firearms. Once the test fire is
completed, please upload the cartridges data to Suspicious Firearms Index to see if the firearms
are connected to other crimes.

Det. CHEN had also communicated with Chemistry Section Scientist Craig BRYANT regarding
analyzing exhibit BLACKPOWDER to which he accepted it and provided tracking number 84139.
WRPS will make delivery arrangements with CFS to have an Explosives Group member on site to
receive exhibit BLACKPOWDER. Once analyzed, exhibit BLACKPOWDER can be disposed of.
