1. Students can discuss the steps to handling other people’s anger as well as the development of
emotional competence.
2. Students should consider the ways to achieve emotional balance and describe strategies for
achieving emotional control. By establishing an atmosphere of trust, an employer can achieve a
high degree of transparency in the realm of employee performance.
CLOSING CASE: Is Romancing a Colleague Okay?
1. As noted in the case material, romance at work is tolerated far more today than in the past. In
some cases, however, it can be a major productivity disrupter.
2. Consensual romances at work are not unlawful, but some types of romances may violate a
company policy. For example, a romance between a supervisor and a direct report can cause
problems.
3. Employment of married couples is very common at some organizations. It is usually best to avoid
situations where both husband and wife work in the same department or a situation where a
manager is supervising his or her spouse.
