Question 1:
Using an RTD with α=0.004/°C and R=400Ω at 30°C, The RTD dissipation constant is
28mW/°C.it used in a bridge circuit with R1=R2=200Ω, R3=300Ω, and Vs=10V. it is
placed at 90°C.
(a) Find self-heating and offset voltage at20°C and 80°C.
(b) Find the value of R3 to null bridge at 90°C.
(c) It required to reduce self-heating to be 1°C at 90°C, find the value of R1 and R2
to satisfy this condition.

Question 2:
Using an RTD with α=0.004/°C, R=300Ω T and dissipation constant is 30mW/°C at
30°C, it used in a bridge circuit with R1=R2=200Ω, R3=250Ω, and Vs=10V. it is placed
at 90°C.
(a) Find self-heating and offset voltage at 90°C.
(b) Find the value of R3 to null bridge at 100°C.
(c) It required to change the output range to be 0V at 30°C and 5V at 90°C, develop
the system.

Question 3: (8 marks)
Using an RTD with α=0.004/°C and R=250Ω at 30°C, The RTD dissipation constant is
30mW/°C. It used in a bridge circuit with Vs=5V such that self-heating to be 1°C at
30°C.
(a) Design the bridge circuit
(b) Determine the offset voltage and self-heating at 70°C and 100°C.
(c) It is required to change the output range to be 0V at 30°C and 10V at 80°C, Design
the system.
Question 4:
A thermistor is used to measure temperature from 20°C to 40°C. It has a resistance 5KΩ at
20°C with slope of -2%/°C and dissipation constant of 5mW/°C. It is proposed to use
the thermistor in the divider circuit with 10V supply such that the self-heating not
exceed 0.5°C at 20°C and its output voltage decreases with temperature increases.
(a) Develop the system.
(b) Determine the self-heating and the output voltage at 35°C and the percentage
error in VD due to self-heating at 35°C.
(c) Determine the temperature resolution at 40°Cwhen the voltmeter used to
measure VD has resolution 100mV.

Question 5: (7 marks)
A thermistor is used to measure temperature from 70°C to 90°C. It has a resistance 5KΩ
at 70°C with slope of -2%/°C and dissipation constant of 5mW/°C. It is used in the
divider circuit with 10V supply such that the divider output increases with temperature
increases and the self-heating does not exceed 1°C at 70°C and an alarm will operate
when temperature exceed 90°C and stops at 85°C.
(a) Develop the system.
(b) Determine the % error in the output voltage VD due to self-heating at 80°C.

Question 6:
A thermistor is used to measure temperature from 70°C to 90°C. It has a resistance 5KΩ
at 70°C with slope of -2%/°C and dissipation constant of 5mW/°C. It is used in the
divider circuit with 10V supply such that the divider output increases with temperature
increases and the self-heating does not exceed 1°C at 70°C .
(a) Design the divider circuit.
(b) Determine the self-heating at 90°C
(c) Determine the divider output voltage VD at 100°C and the percentage error in
VD due to self-heating.
Question 7:
A type J-thermocouple is used to measure temperature from 150 °C to 450 °C with
20 °C reference temperature.
(a) Find the output voltage of TC if the measured temperature is 175°C, 182°C.
(b) Find the measured temperature when the voltage is 21.02V, 17.25.

Question 8:
A type J-thermocouple is used to measure temperature.
(a) Find the output voltage of TC if the measured temperature is 333°C, 425°C
with 28 °C reference temperature.
(b)Find the measured temperature when the voltage is 10.89V with 25 °C
reference temperature.

Question 9:
A type J-thermocouple is used to measure temperature from 450 °C to 650
°C with 28 °C reference temperature. Its output is inputted to an 8-bit ADC
with 5V reference such that its output is 00H at 450 °C and FFH at 650 °C.
(a) Develop the system.
(b) Find the temperature resolution at 500 °C.
(c) Find the measured temperature when the ADC output is 3FH.
(d) Find the ADC output when the measured temperature is 600 °C.

Question 10:
A type K-thermocouple is used to measure temperature from 700 °C to 900
°C with 30 °C reference temperature. Its output is inputted to an 8-bit ADC
with 5V reference such that its output is 00H at 700 °C and FFH at 900 °C.
(a) Develop the system.
(b) Find the temperature resolution at 700 °C.
(c) Find the measured temperature when the ADC output is 5AH.
(d) Find the ADC output when the measured temperature is 815 °C.
