What Is Life Safety?

Life Safety is a series of activities that help to raise awareness and educate
people about the importance of properly maintaining fire prevention equipment.
Across the United States a fire occurs every 90 seconds. It can take approximately
8 minutes for firefighters to arrive to the scene of a fire. Additionally, when Life
Safety equipment is tampered with, a fire can become life threatening in just 2
minutes.
What Is Life Safety Equipment?

Tools that warn us

Tools that minimizes property damage
Tools that prevents causalities
Tools that provide clear evacuation directions and keep us safe

Some Effects of Damage to Life Safety Equipment:

If a sprinkler head or smoke detector is covered or damaged, the notification

to get out during a fire will be delayed.
Without proper signage and fire evacuation maps, a person may not know
how to exit safely.
There can be a lot of smoke during a fire. Damaged exit signs that are not
illuminated through thick smoke can’t give clear directions.
Some examples of life safety equipment are exit signs, emergency lights,
floodlights, fire evacuation maps, sprinkler heads, fire extinguishers, smoke
detectors, and fire alarm pull stations.
