Assessments with ExamView

Welcome to ExamView Assessment Suite

This ExamView Assessment Suite installation provides you with the following:
1. Test Generator: software which allows you to edit test content and/or create more customized tests
2. Test Player: software which allows you to give the test to your students online via a local area network (LAN)
3. Test Manager: software which allows you to manage your classes
4. Test Content: files with content for your level of Pathways. This content includes:
➢ Tests (.tst files), the premade test content for all units of your student book. You can print or edit and print the
unit test using the Test Generator. You can also publish the tests to Test Player where your students can take
them online via a local area network (LAN). Audio files play automatically if you choose to give the tests online.
➢ Audio files (.mp3s) that accompany the premade test items.
➢ An audio Script (.pdf) for all unit tests.
➢ Banks (.bnk files), the test content for all units of your student book. Having unit banks allows you to create a test
from content across the book. You may want to create a vocabulary quiz covering several units or an assessment
of pronunciation. In this edition, you can also use metadata tags to customize your tests. Tags provide specific
information about test items, such as what lesson or skill the item covers. There are reference (REF), Topic (TOP),
and Miscellaneous (MSC) tags with the following information.
o REF: Lesson A/Lesson B
o TOP: Vocabulary/Listening for Main Ideas/Listening for Details/Listening Skill/Speaking Skill/
Pronunciation/Grammar/Free Speaking
o MSC: AWL (at levels 1-4, vocabulary items focusing on words in the Academic Word List)
o MSC: TOEFL or IELTS (at levels 3-4, items such as those on TOEFL or IELTS)
Finally, you can add your own test items to the banks to assure the test suits your needs. For more information on

Installing ExamView Assessment Suite and Test Content

To install the program, follow the on-screen prompts.
1. Open the file location where the ExamView program was downloaded.
2. Select "Setup.exe" (PC) or "ExamView Installer.pkg" (MAC) from the top level folder.
3. Click Install. The installation Welcome screen is displayed.
NOTE: The contents of the EVPlayer folder are provided for LAN-based testing.

Where can I access the Audio files?

You can access the audio files in two ways, depending on what you want to do and what is easiest for you.
1. I want to play the audio for my students myself. The easiest way to access the audio files is to go to the NGL Pathways
Companion Site NGL.Cengage.com/pathwaysseries and find the ExamView content for your book on the Teacher
Resources tab. These same audio files are also loaded onto your computer with installation of the ExamView content.
You can find the audio files in the Tests folder here:
PC - C:\Program Files\eInstruction\ExamView OR C:\Program Files (x86)\eInstruction\ExamView
Mac - HD:\Applications\eInstruction\ExamView Pro
2. I want to give the test in a lab with audio linked to the test items. The audio plays automatically when the tests are
given on a local area network (LAN). Just be sure the .mp3 files remain with the .tst files in the Tests folder.
