ASSIGNMENT PHYSICS ELECTRICITY

1) An electric current is passed through a circuit containing two wires of the same material connected in
parallel. If the length and radii of the wire are in the ratio 2/3 and 4/3, then find the ratio of the
current passing through the wires.
2) A uniform wire is cut into four segments. Each segment is twice of the earlier segment. If the shortest
segment has a resistance of 2Ω, find the resistance of original wire.
3) Draw magnetic field lines around a bar magnet.
4) A coil of insulated copper wire is connected to a galvanometer. What would happen if a strong bar
magnet is
a) Pushed into the coil.
b) Withdrawn from inside the coil.
c) Held stationary inside the coil.
Give justification for each answer.
5) Find the equivalent resistance between point A and B in the figure.
6) Define electric power. An electrical device of resistance R is connected
across a source of voltage V and draws a current I. derive an expression
for power in terms of current and resistance.
7) A parallel combination of three resistors takes a current of 7.5A from a
supply of 30V. If the two resistors are 10Ω and 12Ω, find the third one.
8) Two electric bulbs rated 100W, 220V and 60W, 220V are connected in parallel to an electric mains of
110V. find the current drawn by the bulbs from the mains.
9) A wire having resistance of 10Ω is bent in form of a circle. What is the effective resistance between
two points along any diameter of the circle?
10) What are magnetic field lines? Write four characteristic of magnetic field lines.
11) A resistance coil is made by joining in parallel two wires each of 10 Ω. A potential difference of 1V
is applied between the two ends of the coil for 5minutes. Calculate the amount of heat produced.
12) A heating element marked 210V, 630W. What is the current drawn by the element when
connected to a 210V supply. What is the resistance of an element?
13) Name the instrument used to measure the potential difference in the circuit. Define unit of
potential difference.
14) State ohm’s law. Draw a graph between potential difference and electric current to calculate
resistance using ohm’s law. How will you calculate resistance from the graph?
15) A wire of resistance 30Ω is cut into three equal parts and then all the parts are connected in
parallel across a battery of 10V, find the current drawn from the battery.
