protec琀椀on for their personal assets, as well as protec琀椀on from malprac琀椀ce. The owners of 281 Family

success of the company. As the business gains more clients, it is an琀椀cipated that customers will pass on

the poten琀椀al to expand and provide services to areas beyond Boyd County. The pharmacy hopes to

have unique skills and abili琀椀es that they can contribute to the successes of the business and help provide
care beyond prescrip琀椀ons.
The owners of 281 Family Pharmacy believe that by keeping costs minimal, the business will be able to
reach out to families and individuals in the community and put their health and wellness 昀椀rst. Within 10
years, 281 Family Pharmacy hopes to purchase the building they are currently based in, rather than
con琀椀nue to rent the loca琀椀on. Long term, owning the land and building will prove to be bene昀椀cial for the
昀椀nances of the business. A昀琀er paying for the building, only minimal costs for upkeep will remain. In
addi琀椀on, the business will increase in value due to owning an o昀케ce and real estate.

281 Family Pharmacy conducted a survey of Boyd County residents regarding the need for a pharmacy in
the county. The survey was sent to every adult resident in Boyd County. 281 Family Pharmacy received
422 completed surveys. The results of the survey are below:
The current pa琀琀ern of the aging popula琀椀on will contribute to 281 Family Pharmacy’s success. Although
unfortunate, many people take prescrip琀椀on medica琀椀ons every day. As previously stated, Mayo Clinic
claims that nearly 70% of Americans take at least one prescrip琀椀on drug each day and more than half of
Americans take two. More than 20% take 昀椀ve or more medica琀椀ons daily. This being the case, 281 Family
Pharmacy has a large target market that will be de昀椀ned as all residents of Boyd County and the sur-
rounding areas.
The compe琀椀琀椀ve analysis below compares 281 Family Pharmacy, West Holt Pharmacy, and O’Neill Family
Pharmacy. This graphic is useful to the owners of 281 Family Pharmacy because it allows them to see
how they compare to the other pharmacies. The sec琀椀ons of this analysis are pricing, community
environment, facili琀椀es, public rela琀椀ons, and special services. Pricing is included because customers o昀琀en
u琀椀lize businesses with the most reasonable prices. Community environment is included because
welcoming customers and providing care beyond prescrip琀椀ons should be a priority for any pharmacy.
Facili琀椀es are present in the analysis because making good impressions and simplifying the produc琀椀on
plan is ideal. Public rela琀椀ons is analyzed because developing rela琀椀onships within the communi琀椀es is
important. Special services are included because the target market is focused around the elderly and
mee琀椀ng their needs, which is essen琀椀al in order to prosper as a local pharmacy in a rural community.

advantage of social media as a way of connec琀椀ng with poten琀椀al customers. 281 Family Pharmacy will be
using the most popular social media site to increase the customer base. The owners chose to use
Facebook because it is very common, and a昀琀er surveying the target market, it as found that Facebook is
the most used social media pla琀昀orm in the community. The company’s Facebook Page, 281 Family

employees to view informa琀椀on from mobile devices. The Panasonic telephone system allows the o昀케ce

this business plan.

Pharmaceu琀椀cal Equipment
To operate a compe琀椀琀椀ve pharmacy that meets the needs of the customers and provides care beyond
prescrip琀椀ons, a compounding hood, a large piece of computer-based equipment that prevents par琀椀cles
from entering and leaving a work area, will be purchased. A robo琀椀c autoclave will also be placed in the
laboratory, which is a piece of equipment used to sterilize various medical tools and objects such as
昀氀asks, funnels, spatulas, and reusable syringes. A pharmaceu琀椀cal compounder will be necessary in order
to have compounding services.
So昀琀ware
The so昀琀ware that 281 Family Pharmacy will use is Computer Rx. This so昀琀ware also serves as a point-of-
sale system that integrates a wide array of services to customers. Using this central management
so昀琀ware will allow 281 Family Pharmacy to have an e昀케cient work昀氀ow setup, customizable repor琀椀ng, a
medica琀椀on synchroniza琀椀on program, an easy-to-use interface, an employee management portal, and
琀椀me clock availabili琀椀es.

There will be a three-step hiring process for new employees at 281 Family Pharmacy. First, applica琀椀ons
will be reviewed and the most quali昀椀ed of the applicants will be o昀昀ered an interview at 281 Family
Pharmacy. Second, references will be contacted and background checks will be completed. The
pharmacists will then select the applicant that is the most quali昀椀ed for the posi琀椀on and would be the
best 昀椀t for 281 Family Pharmacy. Once these employees are secured at 281 Family Pharmacy, the next
goal is to retain the employee. To retain the employee we will provide the employees with compe琀椀琀椀ve
pay. Finally, we desire to recognize the employees for their extensive e昀昀orts by providing them with
incen琀椀ve plans and rewards.
281 Family Pharmacy will employ an hourly pay scale for the cer琀椀昀椀ed pharmacy technicians and the
pharmacy clerks. The 昀椀nancial manager will be a salary-based employee. The pharmacists will receive
their compensa琀椀on following the payout of wages and bills. The remainder will be invested into the
company or saved for future expansion of the pharmacy. Any employee who is injured while working will
receive worker’s compensa琀椀on. These bene昀椀ts will enable the employee to have an income while they
recover from their injury. Pharmacies rarely encounter injuries, so worker’s compensa琀椀on is not
expected to be frequently u琀椀lized.
An addi琀椀onal bene昀椀t for the employees of 281 Family Pharmacy is that employees will receive eight
hours of pay on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and
Christmas Day. Before the winter holidays, 281 Family Pharmacy gives an annual bonus of $100. The
pharmacy also holds a Christmas celebra琀椀on for business employees and their families. All expenses for
this celebra琀椀on are paid for by 281 Family Pharmacy.
Product Risks
Another risk associated with opera琀椀ng a pharmacy is the risk of faulty products. Because 281 Family
Pharmacy will receive medica琀椀ons from third-party manufacturers and suppliers, all aspects of the
crea琀椀on process will not be monitored directly by the owners. Therefore, there must be a strong channel
of trust between 281 Family Pharmacy and all suppliers.
Financial Risks
Maintaining customers and revenue is essen琀椀al to avoid all 昀椀nancial risk. 281 Family Pharmacy must also
con琀椀nue to make payments on their business loan before planning to purchase the building. The plan for
purchasing and remodeling the building relies on the ability to pay o昀昀 the business loan quickly. If it
takes longer than expected, the pro昀椀t margin will not increase un琀椀l later in the company’s life cycle.
