D. Lesson Proper 1. Introduction to Arithmetic Sequences

 Begin by revisiting the definition of a sequence and then
specifically introducing arithmetic sequences.
 Emphasize that in an arithmetic sequence, each term is
obtained by adding a constant difference to the previous
term.

2. Interactive Examples
 Write a few simple arithmetic sequences on the board and
ask students to identify the common difference.
 Encourage students to share their answers and explain
how they arrived at them.
 Provide additional examples for students to work on
individually, reinforcing the concept of a constant
difference.

3. Formula Exploration
 Introduce the formula for finding the nth term of an
arithmetic sequence: 𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + (n - 1)d.
 Work through examples using the formula on the board,
showing step-by-step calculations.

4. Guided Practice (15 minutes):

 Guide students through a set of problems where they need
to find the nth term of given arithmetic sequences.
 Encourage students to use the formula and check their
solutions for consistency with the common difference.

E. Application Seatwork
Find the missing terms in each arithmetic sequence.

1) 3, 12, 21, __, __, __

2) 5, 12, __, 26, __
3) 17, 14, __, __, 5
4) 1, 5, 9, 13,.......a21 ?
5) 39, 33, 27, 21,........a14 ?
G. Generalization Fill in the blank.

1. A sequence in which term after the first is formed by adding

a fixed number to the preceding term is called ________.
2. To find the common difference, subtract the two _______
terms of an arithmetic sequence.
3. To determine the nth term of an arithmetic sequence, use
the formula _________.

IV. Evaluation Quiz time!

Read the questions/statement carefully, and choose the letter of
the best answer.

1. Which of the following describes an arithmetic sequence?

a. A sequence in which a term is formed by adding any number
to the preceding
term.
b. A sequence in which there is an equal difference between
consecutive terms.
c. A sequence in which a term minus the preceding term is always
positive.
d. A sequence in which terms follows a pattern.

a.-2 b. 2 c. -5 d. 5

4. Which is NOT true about the arithmetic sequence: 25, 32, 39,
46, …?
a. The common difference is 7. b. the 6th term is 60.
c. The 7th term is 60. d. the 8th term is 74.

5. During a free-fall rappelling, a skydiver jumps 36 feet, 48 feet,

and 60 feet on the first, second, and third fall, respectively. If he
continues to jump at this pattern, how many feet will he have
jumped during the tenth fall?
