CLASS : X DATE :
I. DO AS DIRECTED

1. Solve for x:
2𝑥 1 3𝑥+9
+ 2𝑥+3 + (𝑥−3)(2𝑥+3) = 0 , x ≠ 3, – 32. [CBSE Delhi 2016]
𝑥−3
2. If the equation (1 + m2) x2 + 2 mcx + c2 – a2 = 0 has equal roots then show than
c2 = a2 (1 + m2). [CBSE 2017]
3. A train travels at a certain average speed for a distance of 63 km and then travels
at a distance of 72 km at an average speed of 6 km/hr more than its original
speed. If it takes 3 hours to complete total journey, what is the original average
speed ? [CBSE 2018]
4. If – 5 is a root of the quadratic equation 2x2 + p x – 15 = 0 and the quadratic
equation p (x2 + x) + k = 0 has equal roots, find the value of k. [CBSE Outside Delhi
2016]
5. A journey of 192 km from a town A to town B takes 2 hours more by a ordinary
passenger train than a super fast train. If the speed of the faster train is 16 km/h
more, find the speeds of the faster and the passenger train.
6. Speed of a boat in still water is 15 km\h. It goes 30 km upstream and returns
back at the same point in 4 hours 30 minutes. Find the speed of the stream.
[CBSE Delhi 2017]
7. A train travels at a certain average speed for a distance of 63 km and then travels
at a distance of 72 km at an average speed of 6 km/hr more than its original
speed. If it takes 3 hours to complete total journey, what is the original average
speed ? [CBSE 2018]
8. The time taken by a person to cover 150 km was 2. 1/2 hours more than the time
taken in the return journey. If he returned at a speed of 10 km/hour more than the
speed while going, find the speed per hour in each direction.
9. A motor boat whose speed is 24 km/h in still water takes 1 hour more to go 32
km upstream than to return downstream to the same spot. Find the speed of the
stream.
10. Two pipes running together can fill a tank in 11. 1/9 minutes. If one pipe takes 5
minutes more than the other to fill the tank separately, find the time in which each
pipe would fill the tank separately.
