I. OBJECTIVES
a. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of the different characters of Eukaryotic organism
b. Performance Standard:
c. Learning Competencies:

Pasay City National Science High School | Science and Technology Department | SY 2020 - 2021 | Daily Lesson Log | PAGE 1
 Understand the
differences in
morphological structures
 Continuation of in Phycology (Microalgae
discussion of defining and Macroalgae)
characteristics of Phylum
Chordata  Explain the integration and
application of studying
algae as a bioindicator and
usefulness to the industry
II. ASSESSMENT
Assessment Method/s: 10 item Quiz (Tuesday and Thursday)
Assessment Criteria: 1 point for each question
Knowledge: Learners know and understand that… Skills: Learners are able to:
1. Understand the origin of eukaryotic cells thru endosymbiotic theory
Tuesday 2. Differentiate the anatomical and morphological structures of microalgae and macroalgae
 There are four distinct characters that groups the Phylum Chordata 3. Distinguish phycological samples thru morphological analysis
1. Nerve cord is dorsal and hollow 3. Utilize few programs/applications that can be use in Algae research
2. Notochord that runs from anterior to posterior part of the 4. Identify algae species used efficiently in Algae research
body
3. Pharyngeal slits are perforated with ciliated slits
4. Presence of post-anal tail

Thursday
1. Algae are a diverse group of aquatic organisms that has ability to conduct
photosynthesis
2. There are 3 major groups of algae (Micro and Macro). Chlorophyta,
Phaeophyta and Rhodophyta. These groups are initially classified on specific
pigment that algae are possessing.
3. Endosymbiotic theory explain why modern eukaryotic cells are able to
generate energy and sequester and utilize sunlight (thru photosynthesis)
4. Chlorophyceae has chief pigments that includes chlorphyll a and b, carotene,
lycopene
5. Phaeophyceae has chief pigments that includes chlorophyll a and c and
fucoxanthin
6. Rhodophyceae has chief pigment that includes chlorophyll a and d,
phycoerythrin, phycocyanin (phycobillins)
7. Algae are useful as bioindicator for freshwater and marine environment
8. Studying algae by conducting research will greatly help the community,
environment and the industry.
