Character Analysis

Stanley Yelnats is the main character of the book because he is the one who is
driving the story forward as the book is about his life. However, the story goes along with
major characters as well as the minor characters. As we focus on Stanley he is the main
character because all the events are happening around him and it affects him the most. He
is the main focus of the book and the story is going with Stanley's perspective.

As the novel begins, Stanley has low self-respect. He is overweight and is normal to
getting bad luck. He is assigned this bad luck from his "no - good - dirty- rotten- pig -
stealing - great - great - grand - grandfather," who caused Madame Zeroni to put a curse on
the Yelnats family. Stanley has no friends. Throughout the book his bad luck leads Stanley to
Camp Green Lake where he has to dig a hole 5 feet wide and 5 feet deep. Stanley Yelnats
was sent to camp Green lake for a crime he did not commit. As the story mainly shows
Stanley Yelnats and his life since he is the main character he is the main character.

Most of the events happening around affected Stanley Yelnats the most which is one
of the main reasons why Stanley Yelnats is the main character of this book. Another reason
is also that all of the story that is happening is shown in Stanley’s perspective. Meaning that
in the story, the story is showing what Stanley Yelnats is experiencing. Since he is the main
focus of the story he is also the one who is driving the story forward and most of the events
that are happening are affecting him the most, since he is the main character. To summarise
this all the Yelnat family had a curse on them and the recent Yelnats, Stanley Yelnats had to
got to a camp called camp Green lake for a crime he did not commit
