2. JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Practice Educator will be based within the Acute Alcohol Team
(ACT). They will support the continuing education, training and professional
development of the clinical workforce to promote the acquisition of skills and
knowledge in the care of patients with alcohol related ill health.
3. ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
The ACT support all departments within the Trust to maintain and develop
professional standards when caring for patients with alcohol related illness.
4. ORGANISATIONAL CHART
To work with colleagues across the Trust to share and develop training
packages/plans/resources for the assessment, management and referral of
patients with alcohol related problems.
Understand digital clinical safety risks and governance.
Assist the delivery of learning which support clinical staff to develop skills in
the assessment and management of alcohol related problems.
To develop innovative ways to deliver education within clinical areas.
Champion digital systems as a way to improve patient safety.
Provide peer support and mentoring for other staff delivering practice
development activities
Support the evaluation of learning programmes to ensure quality
Take responsibility for putting the person receiving care first, and to challenge
poor/practice, doing so as soon as any short comings are seen
Support skills audits and learning needs analyses for different clinical areas to
identify training needs
Provide information, advice and guidance to staff and managers on a range of
learning interventions to meet professional and personal development needs
Be a role model and example to ensure that the dignity, rights and
confidentiality of the patient and staff members are protected and maintained
in accordance with Trust policies values, national standards and guidelines
Contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and competencies
Actively encourage the use of evidence based practice to improve the quality
of patient care
Participate in the planning processes for learning and development, to ensure
that training interventions are linked to identified service needs
Promote an environment that encourages learning and sustains personal,
professional and staff development
Respond promptly to emerging clinical needs, complaints and incidents to
develop appropriate action plans in line with clinical governance
Initiate and implement change effectively in response to clinical or
organisational demands
React positively to and facilitate the process of effective change
Participate in the delivery of education programmes
Take an active role in self-development identifying own professional
competencies and learning needs
Maintain professional networks with educators across the Trust
Participate in research, audit and surveys as required
The post holder will be accountable to the Practice Development Leads, who will
provide line management supervision and annual appraisal. Work is set and
reviewed by the post holder’s line manager who will provide guidance and
instruction to them when required. The post holder is expected to manage their
assigned responsibilities and projects with a minimum of supervision and use
their initiative to ensure timely progress is made. The post holder is responsible
for ensuring the line manager is updated on a regular basis on progress,
developments and issues associated with the role

9. CONFIDENTIALITY
The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients’
staff and Trust business in accordance with the General Data Protection
Regulations (GDPR), Data Protection Act 2018 and Caldicott principles.
Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the
Health & Safety at work Act (1974), to ensure that the agreed safety procedures
are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees and visitors.
All staff have a responsibility to report all clinical and non-clinical accidents,
incidents or near-misses promptly and when requested to co-operate with any
investigations undertaken.
All employees have a duty for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
and adults at risk. Staff must be familiar with the trusts Safeguarding Policy and
the process for raising concerns about the welfare of anyone with whom they
have contact. Staff must also ensure they receive the appropriate level of
safeguarding children and adult training depending on their role in the Trust.
Staff are expected to access supervision and support from their line managers
and/or the locality based safeguarding team when managing complex cases
where applicable to their role.
The post holder must keep up to date with the requirements of information
governance; undertake mandatory training and follow Trust policies and
procedures to ensure that trust information is dealt with legally, securely,
efficiently and effectively.
The post holder must manage the records they create or hold during the course
of their employment with the Trust in an appropriate way, making the records
available for sharing in a controlled manner subject to statutory requirements and
agreed security and confidentiality policies, procedures and guidelines e.g. Data
Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, General Data Protection
Regulations, Caldicott Guidelines NHS Confidentiality Code of Conduct 2003,
and professional codes of conduct on confidentiality.
The post holder must maintain the confidentiality of information about service
user staff and organisational business in accordance with the new Data
Protection Act 2018 and Caldicott principles.
It is likely that the post holder will be in contact at some time with a form of
information system, and therefore is responsible for implementing and
maintaining data quality. The post holder, when making entries into records,
must ensure that these are legible and attributable and that the record keeping is
contemporaneous. It is essential that information recorded within records either
on paper, in an electronic format or both paper and electronic is accurate,
complete and relevant.
