Lesson Plan in Health 7 - Quarter 1

I. Learning Competency
Explain the dimensions of holistic health (physical, mental/intellectual,
emotional, social, sexual, moral and spiritual. (H7GD-Ib-13)

Objectives:
1. describe health; and
2. explain the dimensions of holistic health.

CSE Integration
To include sexual health as a dimension of holistic health. (K4A1)

IV. Procedures
A. Motivation (3 mins)
The teacher will show the following graphic organizer and will ask
students what word that comes to their mind when they see the word
HEALTH.

B. Activity
Task 1. Picture Perfect (15 mins)

a. The teacher will group the class into 5 or 6 and will ask to choose
a leader. Number of groups may depend on the class size.
b. Each group will be given the following pictures that represent the
dimension of holistic health.

c. The teacher will ask the group to complete the table below.
Students may use manila paper to do the activity.

D. Abstraction and Generalization (17 mins)

The following concepts will be presented to the class.

Note to the teacher:


 Please include drawings to represent each dimensions of health
 Compare the answers of the students from the task 2 to the
abstraction. Discuss those signs of holistic health that were not
mentioned by the students.

Health is a state of complete physical, mental or intellectual,


emotional, social, moral-spiritual, environmental and sexual well-
being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

DIMENSION OF HOLISTIC HEALTH

 Physical Health means how well your body functions.


o internal body organs, tissues and cells are functioning
properly
o external body parts are functioning properly
o physically fit
o eating nutritiously
o getting adequate rest and sleep

 Mental Health means being a lifelong learner by continuously


wanting to learn new things and improve one’s skills.
o open to new ideas and experiences
o aware of his/her own abilities
o can cope normal stresses in life
o able to work regularly and productively
o able to contribute for the improvement of the community 4
DIMENSION OF HOLISTIC HEALTH

 Social Health refers to how well you get along with other people
o ability to form satisfying interpersonal relationships
o ability to adapt comfortably to different social situations
o act appropriately in a variety of situation
o strong communication skills, empathy for others and a sense of
accountability

 Emotional Health involves understanding and liking yourself as well


as accepting and learning from mistakes.
o how well you meet the demands of daily life
o how you adjust to new situations.
o expressing happiness, love, joy and hope as well as sadness,
anger, stress and fear in healthful productive ways

 Moral-Spiritual Health means being at peace and in harmony with


yourself, others and a higher power.
o religion

o quality of personal relationships or love of nature
o in harmony with your purpose in life

 Human Sexuality is a natural and healthy part of life. It is


everything about being male or female.
