Introduction
An Authentic Future With Soul came about through an extensive
qualitative process. The intention was to discern life themes out
of data collected through various personal assessments and
formats. The process would allow for deep reflection, insights into
values, skills, and interests, as well as aspirations for the future. At
times, these were challenging and uncomfortable processes.
Nonetheless, with persistence and perseverance, the outcomes
were worth the effort and struggle. The following is the results of
each stage in the analysis and the outcomes of my purpose and
personal mission statement.
.
The qualitative process used was Thematic
Analysis. It began with collecting the results
from various personal assessments that I

Process have taken over the years. Then, a coding

approach was taken to review each for
keywords and phrases. After collecting

& dozens of notes, a thorough analysis was

done to find common threads among the
various results and create life themes. This

Method process of analysis was found to be

personally challenging at times, and
extremely satisfying in that it concluded with
great personal insights, a defined purpose,
and a mission statement.

Myers-Briggs Type Inventory, to skills and interests assessments, to personal
values worksheets, and training exercises. They have all proven to be
enlightening and informative. The following table will also serve as the
legend for the source codes referenced in the following themes.

Reflection:
Being faithful has been a struggle, I haven’t felt as though my faith was strong
enough. However, I have recently realized that was mostly because I didn’t feel
I was following “the rules” correctly. I have come to learn that “the ways” are
not what is important. It is the being in it, that is faith. And I have had a very
strong faith my whole life. I know this life theme is one of the cornerstones of
all the themes. It feels very supportive, and it empowers me to be the leader
that I innately and intuitively am.
My Personal Vision Statement

JOY IS MY ESSENCE
AND MY BIRTHRIGHT.
REFLECTION - My personal vision statement gives me
feelings of strength, empowerment, love, safety, purpose, and
joy. In the process of discerning, I kept coming back to a deep
sense of joyfulness. This felt like a reconnecting to deep
qualities, ones that I had not associated with in a very long time.
This statement truly supports me in being my best self,
including being a leader like I never have before.
My Personal Mission Statement
Through optimistic resilience, kindness, love and acceptance, I am
committed to living my life daringly spreading joy and possibility.

Reflection:
I used the Covey website to assist with generating my personal mission statement. It provided
the organization I needed to pull the information together, so that I could formulate my
statement. I felt like their process was too sterile though, so I then took the information and
formulated what felt right and worked for me using a bubble map. I am learning that my
intuition and perspective is as valuable as any “model” way, and to trust it as much. This process
of discernment and analysis has provided many new self awarenesses and has connected many of
the varying aspects of myself for greater clarity and perception.
In conclusion, I have gained a refined, and what I feel is
accurate perception, of myself as a person and a leader. Though

Conclusion
I resisted the process on some deep levels of not wanting to
look at my past again, I am very glad I gave this qualitative
process my all. I have learned so much about the qualitative
process and thematic analysis that will be very useful for me in
my future as a learner and a leader. In addition, I have a better
sense of identity and greater confidence in my abilities and skill
sets. This process has been invaluable overall. I know some
professionals pay consultants to assist them with these types of
assessments and analysis. I am glad I had sense enough to
know the benefits of persevering through the assignment
would be most rewarding. As it truly was and is. I am grateful
for the sense of accomplishment the assignment has provided
as well as the clarity of purpose and mission. Now to embrace
and integrate this new clarity and self-awareness fully in my life
and career. I love that Harrington and Hall’s (2007) aim was to
support us in developing our own notions of success and work-
life balance, (p. x, para. 6). They gave us a wonderful tool to do
just that!
