• Introduction
The Program Head and all members of the faculty welcome you
to the PreUni Plus program.
The management and faculty are committed towards making a
winner out of every sincere student aspiring to join the best
professional colleges. With the revised syllabus students have a
great opportunity to perform well even in All India competitive
exams like JEE-Main, NEET etc., besides competing for
professional courses in Karnataka.
This booklet outlines the process which if followed will ensure
success.
• Why PreUni Plus?
The future of a student is dependent on the performance in the
Board and competitive Exams. While the board exams measure
one's subject knowledge, Competitive Exams will test one's
application skills. Taken together, they will decide what a student
will do in the future. The objective of PreUni Plus program is to
train students to excel both in Board and Entrance examinations
like CET/JEE- Main & NEET.
• Program Structure.
Classes commence on 05 April 2023 and continue up to
15 December 2023. Thereafter, revision program classes shall
be held up to Board examination and after board exam, until
CET examination.
• Methodology
• Learning Sessions
Classroom sessions are designed to be interactive. Printed
courseware is made available to students in advance along with
the teaching schedule listed in this booklet. Using the
courseware, the students must come prepared to the classroom

 session, participate in the classroom discussions, do post-class
work as suggested and to derive maximum benefit. The details
of the same are provided in a separate section. Essential
aspects of learning include timely clarification of doubts and
discussing subject-aspects with the teachers.
• Note-taking
Students are advised to maintain separate long size
note-books for each subject for rough work and for problem
solving in the class room as per the teacher’s instruction. These
books have to be submitted for verification when required by the
teachers.
• Printed Courseware
 Chapter wise Board and CET modules in Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics
 Companion module book each in Computer Science
and Biology subjects.

• Week Planner
A customized week planner has been provided towards the end
of this booklet to help students to plan better and to effectively
manage the time. The week planner has to be used regularly for
planning and execution, make copies and plan every week.

• Tests
Regular tests are conducted to prepare students for the Board
and Entrance exams.
(a) Weekly tests in PCMB subjects (Board and CET).
(b) Quarterly and Mid Term Exams.
(c) During Jan 2024 : Intensive revision and practice sessions
with 3 Section wise papers in each subject for Board

Preparation on 2 PU topics will be administered.
(d) Preparatory exams for Board during March 2024
Post board exam preparation towards Entrance Exams:

The detailed Test schedule is given towards the end of this

booklet. Being regular to every test/examination is important to
assess the adequacy of preparation in the given topic. Any
short-comings can immediately be rectified. Absenteeism to
test/exam shall be viewed seriously.
Tests will not be administered after the scheduled dates.
Absence from tests and poor performance will affect in two ways:
 Regular absenteeism may disqualify the student from
continuing in the program further.
 Being absent even in one test shall lower the overall
performance and ranking of the student which will hamper
the chance of being recognized for good performance.

 Distribution of Answer scripts to students.
The answer scripts of term test will be distributed in the
classrooms. At the time of distribution, if a student is absent,
he/she must collect the answer script from the office. If the
answer script is not collected within a week from the date of
distribution, the student will get only the marks from the records.

• Online Support Services

Detailed solutions to exercise sets, SAT in Board & MCQs
Assignment Modules (5 A/B to 8A/B) will be uploaded to the
BASE website.

Online Information services:

Class Attendance and Test performance can be viewed by
students and parents on the BASE website.

Students/Parents can access our website
Login to https://portal.baseedu.in/ using the login details.
Student Roll No. which is 8 digit unique number as
Login-id and Student Date of Birth is assigned initially as the
password in ddmmyy format. The students have to change the
password during their first login. The students can take the
online tests using the same access credentials.

• Student and Parent counseling

Counseling is an extremely important component of our training
program. Counseling sessions are vital in maintaining the focus,
the motivation and confidence levels required to face the
entrance exams. You will be invited with your parents to assess

 your performance, to identify your strengths and weaknesses for
appropriate corrective/enhancement measures. Counseling will
be on a one-to-one basis. Counseling sessions between
you/your parent and the teacher/mentor will be scheduled
regularly. You are requested to take advantage of this
opportunity to take the necessary steps to improve your
performance.

Mentoring: A mentor is assigned to help you get the right

academic support. They shall meet you periodically and advise
you on your study approach, the focus needed, time
management and more importantly motivate you to sustain the
focus in reaching your goal.

• Responsibilities of Students
Dos:
• To display appropriate student ID card while in the college
premises.
• Be seated before the scheduled commencement of classes.
Late-comers will not be permitted.
• Be attentive in the classroom.
• Mobile phones and other electronic gadgets are not to be
carried as they are banned in the campus.
• Come appropriately dressed as defined by the institution:
(a) Uniform (if provided by the college).
(b) Boys - Full-length pants, T-shirts / shirts without prints.
(c) Girls - Salwar Kameez, Full-length pants, long tops with
sleeve.

 • Should behave in a decent and acceptable manner within
the campus. Should be aware that your actions might
inconvenience other students, staff.
• Examinations should be taken seriously. Bags must be kept
near the front end of the examination hall.
• A student should follow an excellent work culture to realize
his/her goal. We would recommend you to follow a
predetermined plan of learning by creating a planner every
week.

Don’ts:
• Do not chew gum, eat or drink during classes.
• Should not deface furniture or walls, in or around
class-rooms, tamper with the electronic equipment.
• Do not roam around the campus. Do not form groups and
disturb others before and after classes.
• Do not indulge in any malpractice during the examination.
• Do not indulge in any talk/activity which disturbs the smooth
conduct of classes.
BASE follows a zero tolerance policy and takes very strong
exception to any kind of misbehavior. Any misbehavior will result in
the expulsion of the student.

Students and their parents are encouraged to interact with the faculty
on a regular basis. All the staff members are approachable and are
committed to assist the students and parents in all aspects of

Students are provided with printed courseware for the subjects
they enroll for i.e., Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology
/ Electronics / Computer Science. Students should go through
the relevant content from the modules before attending the
classes. This will help students to understand the topic taught in
the classroom better and also, enable them to learn faster.
The teaching schedule/sequence for each subject is given
towards the end of this booklet.

• Classroom interaction
• Be regular
Being regular to the classes is extremely important since
learning is continuous. If a student abstains from a class,
he/she may not be able to follow the lessons in the
subsequent classes.

 • Be punctual
Be present in the classroom at least 5 minutes prior to the
commencement of the class. This will help in being
methodical. The student may be denied entry to the
classroom for late coming.
• Be attentive
Maintain utmost alertness throughout the class, listen to
the teacher, try to make useful notes during the lecture.
Useful notes mean, the salient points, mathematical steps,
their sequence, meaning, interpretation, connectivity,
relevance, extra information, limitations of a concept
application, etc.
• Be bold
Do not hesitate to seek clarifications for the concepts /
explanations / problems that you have not been able to
follow during the lecture, either within the class or outside
the classroom.
• Post class work
It is important that the content covered on a given day is learnt
the same day by referring to modules and text books. Practice
writing the definitions, derivations, problem-solving, etc. This
method will help you in better understanding and recall.
If there is a habit of postponing the preparation, the time required
for the same quantum of preparation keeps increasing every
day. Eventually, having piled up things, it becomes
unmanageable, resulting in tension, anxiety, fear of scoring low
marks, etc.
Now, let us identify the steps a student needs to follow to
analyze the performance and apply the remedial measures.

• Analysis and Remedy
(i) Preparation for Board Examination Chapter-wise
Exercise Units
In order to ensure that learning and preparation for Test /
Examination is complete, exercise units are given at the end
of each chapter in the PCMB modules. Each exercise unit
contains questions (1 mark, 2 marks, 5 marks etc.) along
with problems wherever applicable. A student must write the
answer to the questions and solve all problems in a separate
workbook as and when the teaching is complete for the
corresponding exercise unit.
• A chapter will have several exercise units. Answer all the
mandatory exercises, under simulated examination condition.
• Check the correctness of the answers by comparing with the
solution provided in the module.
• Identify the reasons for mistakes in the incorrect answers. For
example, conceptual mistakes, mistakes due to comprehension
of the question, mistakes in numerical calculation, mistakes due
to hurry, mistakes due to mental calculations etc. Take
appropriate remedial measures in subsequent tests.
• Discuss with the concerned teacher for clarification and
improvement.
• For languages, do refer to the text prescribed by Board.
(ii) Preparation for Entrance examination
Answer MCQ’s given in the assignment modules
(level B) on a day to day basis.
• Answer the MCQ's in the order, easy-moderate-difficult.

Follow these steps:
Step 1 : Identify the concept(s) involved in a question. Apply
the same for solving it.
Step 2 : Analyze how a concept is connected to several other
concepts (Wherever applicable).
Step 3 : Check if a problem can be solved by an alternate
method. Every problem may not have an alternate
solution, but many problems do have alternate
solutions.
Step 4 : Check if the number of steps employed in solving a
problem can be reduced.
Step 5 : Check if the wrong options can be eliminated by
appropriate reasoning.
Adopt the order, solve - check - mark - check - proceed.
• After answering the test as described earlier, check with the
solutions. Suppose, if 25 out of 30 MCQs have been answered
and 3 out of the 25 are wrong, one's performance has to be
analysed as follows:

It is observed that when a student's learning is not proper in the

theory portion related to a chapter, performance in the corresponding
entrance test is also affected.

• Plan of work
Preparation for an examination can be optimized by following a
planner. Arrange and organize the time slots for a day by
allotting time for fitness, school/college (include travel time
wherever necessary). It will increase one's confidence and
intellectual sharpness which will pave the way for better
performance.

Your week planner should include

• Pre-class preparation
• Post class learning
• Revision - on learning the contents of a chapter, prepare the
summary sheet and then revise
• Self-tests - on each chapter

A word of caution
Students should ensure that they are 100% thorough with the
chapters they have studied. For instance, in a set of 10 chapters,
assume one has studied 80% in each chapter. If there is a question
in the 20% that has not been studied, one's performance may range
anywhere between 0 – 100. Whereas, if a student is 100% thorough
with 8 chapters, the possibility of poor performance is low.

10. Information related to competitive exams

(A) KCET
Karnataka Common Entrance Test, also known as KCET, is a
state-level entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examination
Authority (KEA). This entrance exam is organised to provide eligible
candidates admission to different undergraduate courses in
Karnataka. The examination is also called Karnataka CET, Kar CET
or K-CET.

KCET 2023 - Exam Pattern
Karnataka Common Entrance Test is a state level common entrance
test, conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). The
entrance test is conducted to offer admission in various
undergraduate courses in the colleges of Karnataka. Candidates
who are qualified in the KCET can take admissions in Engineering,
Technology, Architecture, Farm Science courses i.e., BSc
(Agriculture), BSc (Sericulture), BSc (Horticulture), BSc (Forestry),
BSc AgriBioTech, BHSc (Home Science), BTech (Agri Engg), BTech
(Food Technology), BTech (Dairy Tech), BFSc (Fisheries), BTech
(Food Science & Tech), BSc (Agri Marketing & Co-Op) , B.Pharma,
Pharma-D and 2nd year B.Pharma Lateral Entry Course, in
Government / University / Private Aided/ Private Un-Aided
Professional Educational Institutions in the State of Karnataka.
Common Entrance Test is conducted in Physics, Chemistry,
Mathematics and Biology subjects.
The KCET exam is organized in pen and paper mode, which is
offline. Therefore, candidates will receive OMR sheets, wherein they
need to circle the right answers. There will be four choices of
answers; the correct one is demanded to be circled. However,
candidates should keep in mind that once the answer is circled, it
cannot be altered. In any case, if the candidates mark two answers,
the answer will be considered cancelled.
• There will be 60 mcq’s in each subject.
• Each paper will be of 80 minutes.
• No negative marking

II PU - 70%-75%
PCM – 50% marks of both Board & Entrance exams considered for

(B) JEE MAIN

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common
engineering entrance examination conducted for admission in
various engineering colleges and courses all over the country.
JEE is being conducted in two parts, JEE (Main) and
JEE (ADV). JEE (Main) exam is for admission in IIITs (Indian
Institutes of Information Technology), NITs (National Institutes of
Technology), CFTIs (Central Funded Technical Institute) and
IIEST Shibpur, for admission to its dual degree program. JEE (ADV)
is for admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Admission to NITs will be based on the performance in JEE (Main)
exam.

(AIR) in JEE (ADV), subject to conditions that such candidates have
secured atleast 75% (for GM) and 65% (for SC & ST) in their
10+2 Board Examination.

Type of Examination - JEE (Main)
• National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a
premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing
organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission /
fellowship in higher educational institutions.
• To assess competence of candidates for admissions and
recruitment has always been a challenge in terms of matching
with research based international standards, efficiency,
transparency and error free delivery. The National Testing
Agency is entrusted to address all such issues using best in
every field, from test preparation, to test delivery and to test
marking.
• National Testing Agency will hold twice a year in online mode.
The computer-based exams will be held in eight slots in January
and again in April. Each slot can accommodate about 2 lakh
students. The exam syllabus, pattern, fees and language will
remain the same. If candidates appear for both exams, the
better of the scores will be taken into consideration.

• NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG will be
conducted by the NTA from 2019 onwards. This Test was being
conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till
2018. NEET (UG) is applicable for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses

in India in Medical/Dental Colleges run with the approval of Medical
Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare, Government of India except for the
institutions established through an Act of Parliament i.e. AIIMS and
JIPMER Puducherry.
The responsibility of the NTA will be limited to the conduct of the
entrance examination, declaration of result and providing All India
Rank to the Directorate General Health Services, Government of
India for the conduct of counselling for 15% All India Quota Seats
and for supplying the result to state/other Counselling Authorities.

NEET is the selection test for admission to Medical and Dental

Colleges across the country.
• SYLLABUS - Class XI and Class XII (Senior Secondary)
syllabus. The syllabus will be divided into Physics, Chemistry
and Biology (Botany and Zoology) with equal importance given
to all.
• PATTERN - 45 questions each in Physics and Chemistry,
90 questions (45 questions from topics in Botany and
45 questions from topics in Zoology) in Biology. All the chapters

of 1 and 2 year are important. Previous years’ papers show
that no chapter is left untested.
• MARKING - Each question carries 4 marks. These are awarded
to the correct answer. An incorrect answer will lead to negative
marking of 1 mark. An unanswered question will not be awarded
any marks nor will be subjected to negative marks.

• PREPARATION
 Obtain a copy of the NCERT Textbooks in biology for Class
XI and XII. These books are the basis of the syllabus and
need to be read thoroughly, understood deeply (with help
from reference books, if required) and remembered in all
aspects (facts, examples, concepts).
 To have an edge over your fellow competitors, it becomes
necessary to supplement the NCERT texts with
well-prepared study material. This will help in consolidating
concept understanding as well as introduce you to related
concepts. Make sure to also learn to identify diagrams and
their labelling.
 Success in NEET is a product of various factors. If syllabus
study is the first step, testing oneself is the next. Work out at
least a 100-150 MCQs on each chapter. The NCERT
textbooks offer multiple exemplar questions that highlight
important concepts.
 While the ability to correctly solve questions is crucial, it is
also important to improve the speed of answering-marking.
Therefore, practice solving MCQs in real-time. (Most biology
questions require less than 60 seconds to complete). Work
on your speed of solving to allow you to spend enough time
on working out numerical in physics and / or chemistry.
Practice the technique of RSCMT (Read - Solve - Check -
Mark - Tick) during exams.
 Take a complete NEET test every week / fortnight in a
simulated exam mode. (A full-length paper comprising
45 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology in
3 hours).
