HOSTEL EVENING CALSS QUESTION ANSWER ,4TH SEM, MFT

1. What is manufacturing and example?

Manufacturing is the process of converting raw materials into finished goods. Assembly
lines help manufacturing businesses, such as in the automotive industry, produce goods
more efficiently. Popular stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, and Dollar Tree are not
responsible for the manufacturing of goods.
2. Define tool material?

Tool steels have been available since the turn of the nineteenth century, and are still the
mainstay of tool materials. They are alloys of iron and carbon with additions of elements
such as chromium, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium and vanadium.

3. What are different physical properties?

Physical properties are characteristics of a certain type of matter that can be observed
and/or measured. Physical properties do not affect the chemical composition of the matter.
Examples of physical properties include color, mass, texture and density.
4. Define mechanical properties?

Mechanical properties are also used to help classify and identify material. The most
common properties considered are strength, ductility, hardness, impact resistance, and
fracture toughness. Most structural materials are anisotropic, which means that their
material properties vary with orientation.

5. What is magnetic properties of material?

The magnetic property of a material is the atomic or subatomic response a material to an
applied magnetic field wherein the electron spin and charge create a dipole moment and a
magnetic field.

6. Define High-speed steel?

High-speed steel is a subset of tool steels, commonly used as cutting tool material. It is
often used in power-saw blades and drill bits. In addition, it is often used in bowl gouges and
skew for woodturning.
7. Define high carbon steel?
High carbon steel contains 0.6% to 1.5% carbon content and is known for its high strength
and hardness, but high carbon steel is even more brittle than medium-carbon steel. High
carbon steel is used in applications that require high strength such as knife blades, hand
tools and springs.
8. Define Ceramics?

A ceramic is an inorganic non-metallic solid made up of either metal or non-metal

compounds that have been shaped and then hardened by heating to high temperatures. In
general, they are hard, corrosion-resistant and brittle.

9. Define Diamond?

Diamond, a mineral composed of pure carbon. It is the hardest naturally occurring

substance known; it is also the most popular gemstone. Because of their extreme hardness,
diamonds have a number of important industrial applications.

10. Define Low carbon Steel?

Low-carbon steel, also known as mild steel, has a comparatively low radio of carbon to iron
compared to other steel types. Typically, its carbon content is within the range of 0.05% and
0.32% by weight. This gives low-carbon steel low strength while making it more malleable
and ductile compared to high-carbon steel.
