Design of Experiment

We have been chosen ASPAVA to examine for all the required steps of our project. Since the
critical quality characteristic was time for taking orders we wanted to test both waiters in
different conditions in different time intervals. Since we made a lot of observations in ASPAVA
before, this time they have no patience to let us make design of experiment. Therefore we
decided to arrange our third progress report based on the actions we do in our daily life. Since we
have been doing tons of reports every day, the most meaningful action is writing a specific text
to a Word document which can be also done easily in our IE Lab environment. Since the time is
crucial in the process of writing a report, our response value is defined as time to write a specific
text which has to be lower as possible in time units (text can be found in the Appendix 1.). After
some discussions, controllable and uncontrollable factors are defines as follows:

Controllable Factors Levels

A Monitor Brightness High:1, Medium:2, Low:3
B Keyboard Angle High:1, Low:2
C Illumination High:1,Low:2
D Sound High:1,Low :2
Noise Factors Levels
Z1 Type of Keyboard Ergonomic Levels
Z2 Operator Skill Level

Monitor brightness, keyboard angle, illumination and sound can be arranged while typing.
Hence, these are taken as controllable factors. However, while writing operator and keyboard
type cannot be changed, so these are defined as noise factors in this experiment. For monitor
brightness, there are 3 levels which can be changed manually. Keyboard angle can also be
changed manually by using keyboard height gadget to 0 or 8 degrees. Illumination is changed by
simply by turning lights off. These experiments are done at night time. In addition, high level
sound is provided by Melis’ headphone (this can be seen in Appendix 2. while Behreng typing
with high level of Azerbaijani pop music). Noise factors which are out of our control are
following: operator and keyboard type is selected because operator’s typing skill and keyboard’s
ergonomic conditions like hardness of buttons or distance between buttons cannot be changed.
Throughout the experiment, by changing controllable factors and finding the optimal levels,
noise factors are tried to be minimized.

Taguchi Analysis

Analysis of the data is done via Taguchi design. In this experiment we have 4 factors. Three of
them have 2 levels and one of them has 3 levels. Therefore, 24 (23*31) data points are collected
for all combinations. Length of replication unit is minute. Collected data with respect to their
levels:

Appendix.1
One Day The Hodja...

~ Bread and Yogurt ~

One day the Hodja had 10 para to buy himself lunch with. He first went into the bakery, handed
5 para over to the baker and asked for a bread. As the baker gave Hodja the bread he asked for
his money.

`I just paid you' Hodja said.

`No, you didn't pay me.' the baker insisted, `I didn't see any money.' After a few minutes of
debate, not being able to convince the bully baker, Hodja had to give in. He took out his other 5
para and gave it to him.

Left with no money at all, Hodja next entered the grocery store. He asked for a jar of yogurt.
When the grocer asked for his money, Hodja claimed that he had just given him a 5 para. The
good natured grocer had been a little preoccupied all morning, so he easily believed that he must
have indeed taken the money and forgotten it.

Hodja took his provisions and sat under a tree. Before starting to eat his lunch, he raised his head
towards the sky and said `Sublime Allah, You know what really happened, You take the 5 para
from one and give it to the other.'
