NOTICE

As a teacher, what have you discovered to be easy to implement in your virtual class?

In virtual class, it is easy to implement the rules and procedures since there are
handful of rules essential in the class meeting like turning of the microphone when not
permitted, be on time to join the class, and listen to the teacher’s discussion.

How did the students show their active participation in the lesson?

Students show their active participation in class by answering to the questions asked
by the teacher. They will basically turn on their microphone, some will ask
permission to share their ideas, others will press “raise hand” like in zoom to interact
in the class.

REFLECT

The online learning environment can be safe if there are rules being implemented as
well as the netiquettes to be observed in the class. We must make sure that students
understand these rules clearly for them to understand and follow easily.

I think that teaching in a virtual learning environment is quite challenging because it’s
not only the students will adjust to the changes but also the teachers as well.
Especially to those teachers who aren’t really familiar with computer manipulation.
So, it’s a challenge for the teachers. But, overall, even though it is challenging, it is
also overwhelming and satisfying where we open a new world of experience.

ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE

Even in the virtual class, problems are also evident like the poor internet connection
of the students or the teachers that will also be a hindrance to teaching-learning.
Because we are in the borderless classroom, we can’t really see our students if they
are paying attention to the discussion or not listening. Also, since we use internet for
us to join the class, some students will also get distracted and forced to open new sites
and not paying attention to the discussion. Another problem is the noise of the
surrounding since the learning space takes place at home. Also, dividing the class into
groups is also a problem. Another also is the lack of resources or materials of the
students, there are those students who are unfortunate enough and cannot afford
buying load, WiFi, or even bought gadgets like cellphone and laptop. Some students
even go to the nearest computer shop to join the class.

REFLECT

I would research on the possible solutions for these problems. I haven’t come up with
a solution for now since I have observed these are still rampant. But I am working on
it, on finding the best possible solutions for these.

PLAN

To make sure that students are still in your class or are still listening to the discussion,
facilitate them timely like when calling out their names to participate, let them turn on
their camera and microphone to interact with the class. Other problems only need
consideration for now but sooner, face-to-face could be the answer to these problems.
