Sub: Improvement in Industrial Safety

PFA, PCMM, CME/Plg, PCEE, CWE/W, Dy.CE, Dy.CME/AP, Dy.CME/AM, Dy.CME/Utility

The following aspects related to potential risks to personnel inside the factory premises may kindly be
communicated to the officers, supervisors and staff working under your control. It may kindly be ensured that
the instructions are also conveyed to the contractors carry out works being executed/monitored by officers
working under your control, inside the factory premises.

1. Working at heights: The staff who are required to work at heights, i.e. at heights above 6 feet, must
use suitable safety harness so that they are protected from injuries in case of accidental trips or falls.
Suitable supervision may be ensured for such activities. The safety harnesses should be visually
inspected before each use to ensure that it is not damaged. The staff and supervisors should be
trained on the proper use of safety harnesses. If any training is required in this regard, then kindly
communicate the same to undersigned and training shall be arranged through Safety Cell.

2. Handling material with crane: The staff may be advised to check the load capacity of the crane, and
use lifting tackle of appropriate capacity. Lifting tackles that are overdue for inspection should not
be used. While lifting and transporting loads, the staff should ensure that loads are lifted vertically.
Angular lifting of loads is not permitted under any circumstance.
3. Mobile Material Handling Equipment: While using mobile material handling equipment it must be
ensured that the load carried by the equipment is within the load carrying capacity of the equipment,
including load-distance constraints if any. Mobile material handling equipment , owned by an outside
agency, must possess the necessary safety certificates with respect to road worthiness, load carrying
capacity etc. If any training is required in this regard, then kindly communicate the same to
undersigned and training shall be arranged through Safety Cell.
4. PPEs: All officers, supervisors, staff, visitors, contractual staff must wear helmets (with chin strap
secured properly) and safety shoes while inside the factory premises. Further, they must use suitable
PPE depending on the area of work.
5. Cautious use of mobile phone: All officers, supervisors, staff, visitors, contractual staff must exercise
caution while using mobile phones inside the factory. Following activities must be avoided in this
regard.
 Speaking on mobile phone while under area over which EOT cranes are moving.
 Speaking on mobile phone while walking along path ways inside the factory sheds, roads etc.
 Speaking on mobile phone while driving a vehicle
6. Road Safety: ll officers, supervisors, staff, visitors, contractual staff must observe following
precautions with respect to road safety while inside the factory.
 Maintain speed limit within 15 kmph while driving vehicles
 Slow down before intersections while driving or walking to observe the movement of other
vehicles/pedestrians
 Wear seat belt while driving vehicle
 Ensure that safety features in the vehicle such as brakes, head lights, indicator lights, horn,
reverse gear horn etc. are in working order
