Synopsis of the topic “ Coal grade quality analysis “

Industry name- ccl, ranchi

Industry guide -. K. K viswas (dy. Manager)

1. Objective of the project:

1.To analyze the profitability position of the company by coal

quality.
2. To analyze the liquidity position of the company.
3. To analyze the strength and weakness of the company
thorough coal grade.
4. To judge how Central Coalfield Limited is performing
financially.
Literature review:-

Coal grade is an economic or technological classification of the

relative quality of a coal for a particular use. A variety of grades
of coal are defined for different uses or markets in different
industries and countries, and for the needs of a particular process
or by regulations concerning the process or end-use product. The
terms are process- or product-specific. For example, a coal
which can be used to generate steam for electricity, may not be a
high-grade coal for metallurgical uses. Terms such as low-ash or
low-sulfur are also examples of grade terms. Different quality
grades are used in different coal markets.-Kentucky Geological
Survey, University of Kentucky.

The gradation of non-coking coal is based on Gross Calorific

Value (GCV), the gradation of coking coal is based on ash
content and for semi coking /weakly coking coal it is based on
ash plus moisture content, as in vogue as per notification.
Coal Grades - Ministry of Coal, Government of India
There are four major types (or “ranks”) of coal. Rank refers to
steps in a slow, natural process called “coalification,” during
which buried plant matter changes into an ever denser, drier,
more carbon-rich, and harder material. The four ranks are:

Anthracite: The highest rank of coal. It is a hard, brittle, and

black lustrous coal, often referred to as hard coal, containing a
high percentage of fixed carbon and a low percentage of volatile
matter.
Bituminous: Bituminous coal is a middle rank coal between
subbituminous and anthracite. Bituminous coal usually has a
high heating (Btu) value and is used in electricity generation and
steel making in the United States. Bituminous coal is blocky and
appears shiny and smooth when you first see it, but look closer
and you might see it has thin, alternating, shiny and dull layers.
Subbituminous: Subbituminous coal is black in color and is
mainly dull (not shiny). Subbituminous coal has low-to-
moderate heating values and is mainly used in electricity
generation.
Lignite: Lignite coal, aka brown coal, is the lowest grade coal
with the least concentration of carbon. Lignite has a low heating
value and a high moisture content and is mainly used in
electricity generation.-U. S. Geological survey
Research methodology

Research is the systematic process of collecting and analyzing

data in order to increase our understanding of the phenomenon
about which we are concerned or interested. It is the indepth
search for knowledge. It is a careful investigation or inquiry
especially through search for new facts in any branch of
knowledge. The study exhibits both descriptive and analytical
character. Regarding the theoretical concept it is descriptive
since it interprets and analysis the secondary data in order to
arrive at appropriate conclusion, it is also analytical in character.
The interpretation of data is done based on ratio and percentage.

SOURCES OF INFORMATION:-

Primary Data

Primary data are those data collected from individual official

guides view from organization. These data are collected through
personnel interview.
Secondary Data

Secondary data are those data which are already gathered and
available. There may be internal sources within plant; externally
that sources may include book periodicals, published report, data
service and annual report.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY FOR MY PROJECT

TIME OF RESEARCH DESGIN : Descriptive

SAMPLE AREAS : head office, Darbhanga house, CCL

DATA COLLECTION

Primary data- In CCL, Primary data & information have been

collected through observation and a employees. A set of
questionnaire was prepared with well structured questions.

Secondary data- Secondary data were collected from books,

website and annual reports and official records of the CCL.
