Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the Life Science fields of health care and
agriculture.

The general partnership "Friedr. Bayer et comp." was founded on August 1, 1863 in Barmen - now a
district of the city of Wuppertal - by dye salesman Friedrich Bayer (1825–1880) and master dyer Johann
Friedrich Weskott (1821–1876).

dyestuffs. Dahil few years previously mula nung nabuo nila ang company ay naimbento na ang coal-tar
derivatives which is nag open up po ng new field of business para sakanilang dalawa.

• In 1881, Bayer was transformed into a joint stock company called "Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedr.
Bayer & Co."

Company’s impressive growth po in its early years is kitang kita dahil po sa size ng kanilang workforce na
nag grew in three to more than 300 in 1881.

• 1897: Bayer introduces Aspirin, a pain reliever, which becomes one of the most widely used and
recognized medications globally.

It was developed by Felix Hoffmann and aspirin is called the “drug of the century”

• 1914-1925: World War I and Its Consequences

Bayer's development was interrupted by the First World War. The company was largely cut off from its
major export markets, and sales of dyes and pharmaceuticals dropped accordingly. Thanks to the
constructive cooperation between management and the employees' representatives, Bayer made it
relatively smoothly through the uneasy years following the defeat in World War I.

• 1925: Bayer merges with other chemical companies to form IG Farben, contributing to the
company's growth and diversification.

Once the global economy has stabilized in the mid-1920s, in 1925, six German companies take the
decision to form a community of interests – Interessengemeinschaft Farbenindustrie AG, or I.G. Farben
for short – to remain competitive and gain access to new markets. Just like the other companies, Bayer
transfers its assets to I.G. Farben and its entry as an independent company in the commercial register is
deleted.

• 1945: IG Farben is dissolved after World War II

• 1954: Bayer pioneers the development of the first oral contraceptive pill, Enovid.

its Crop Science division.
