DIAPGRAHM PUMP

Also known as a Membrane pump that uses a combination

of the reciprocating action of a rubber, thermoplastic or
PTFE and suitable valves on either side of the body (check
valve, butterfly valves, flap valves, or any other form of
shut-off valves) to pump a fluid.

There are various types of diaphragm pump available based

on the power source used to push and pull the diaphragm,
such as hydraulic, motor, and solenoid-driven pumps.

Assessing Diaphragm Pumps for Specific Roles in
Chemical Processing Systems

Chemical Compatibility: Abrasive and corrosive fluids are among the many substances that diaphragm
pumps can handle. Their compatibility with certain compounds, however, needs to be carefully taken into
account. The diaphragm and other pump parts must be made of materials that can withstand the chemicals
being treated.
Seal-less Design: A hermetic seal is created between the fluid being pumped and the surrounding air using
diaphragm pumps. They are therefore perfect for handling volatile or dangerous materials, stopping leaks,
and guaranteeing security in applications involving chemical processing.
Gentle Handling: Diaphragm pumps provide gentle handling of fluids, making them suitable for pumping
shear-sensitive materials or delicate chemical compounds that may degrade under high shear forces. This is
particularly important in industries where product quality and consistency are critical.

HOW DO DIAPHRAGM PUMPS WORK?
Pros of Diaphragm Pumps in Chemical Handling

Low Maintenance Construction: diaphragm is designed to be durably long lasting and have low
maintenance.
Oil Free Operation: diaphragm pump parts that are in contact with the corrosive liquids or viscous
substances in processing tomato are separated from the drive, and prevents oil from polluting the
media(corrosive liquids or viscous substance).
Chemical Resistance: the diaphragm pump's parts that are in contact with the media can be replaced
depending on the material suitable for the media.
Flexibility: Diaphragm pump is ideal for tight spaces and it is also lightweight and portable allowing easy
installation.
Dry Run Safe: diaphragm pump can continue operating without damage even when there is no liquid or
inadequate liquid in the pump chamber.
Cons of Diaphragm Pumps in Chemical Handling

Pressure Limitations: Diaphragm pumps have certain pressure limitations. Handling chemicals that require
very high pressure for pumping might not be feasible with standard diaphragm pumps.
Flow Rate Limitations: Diaphragm pumps may not be suitable for applications requiring very high flow rates
due to their design and operational mechanics.
Viscosity Issues: While diaphragm pumps can handle a range of viscosities, extremely viscous fluids can
pose challenges. High viscosity can lead to decreased flow rates and increased wear on the pump
components.
Abrasive Chemicals: Abrasive chemicals can wear out the diaphragm and other internal parts of the pump
more quickly, reducing its lifespan and efficiency.
Temperature Limitations: Diaphragm pumps typically have temperature limitations. High-temperature
chemicals can damage the pump components, especially the diaphragm material, leading to reduced life or
failure.
