2. BACKGROUND OF THE AUTHOR:

"Eerie" is a Filipino horror-thriller film directed by Mikhail Red. The film was released in 2018.
Mikhail Red is a Filipino film director known for his work in the horror and thriller genres. He comes from
a family of filmmakers, with his father Raymond Red being a prominent filmmaker in the Philippines. A
prolific director whose professional career started in his early 20s

Mikhail Red's background includes studying film and working on various projects in the Philippine film
industry. He gained recognition for his unique storytelling style and his ability to incorporate social issues
into his films. Some of his other notable works include "Birdshot" and "Neo manila."

4. SETTING: ST. LUCIA ACADEMY FOR GIRLS

The movie "Eerie" is primarily set at the St. Lucia Academy for Girls, a traditional Catholic school
in the Philippines. The school's architecture, with grand Gothic and neoclassical buildings surrounded by
lush greenery, creates a mysterious atmosphere. Dimly lit interiors, somber classrooms, and a significant
chapel contribute to an eerie ambiance. The contrast between outward beauty and hidden darkness
reflects themes of tradition vs. modernity and power dynamics. As mysteries unravel, the school's setting
becomes a tense backdrop for psychological and supernatural elements, symbolizing the clash of themes
explored.

“Those who believe without seeing are blessed” – It is written at the base of the statue, a
reference to religious organization’s blind faith. Sometimes, this scripture is used by the religious who
cling to God for answers during hardships. A reference to John 20:29.

Overall, the setting of the St. Lucia Academy for Girls is an integral part of "Eerie," contributing to
the film's atmosphere of suspense, horror, and unease.

5. CHARACTER

Mother Alice portrayed by actress Charo Santos-Concio. Mother Alice is a strict and traditional head nun
of the St. Lucia Academy for Girls. She is responsible for overseeing the operations of the school and
maintaining its strict disciplinary and religious atmosphere. Mother Alice is deeply committed to
upholding the school's reputation and maintaining order among the students and staff. Mother Alice is
dynamic because, after all, she regretted that she was weak, and she also regretted that she didn't care
about what was happening at school.
Pat Consolacion, the school's guidance counselor at the St. Lucia Academy for Girls. She is a
compassionate and caring woman who is genuinely dedicated to helping the students deal with their
emotional and psychological struggles. Her empathy and concern for the students make her a trusted
figure in the school community. Ms. Pat is dynamic, being the main character, and undergoes a change
after her brother's suicide. She becomes more observant of people's feelings.

Erika Sayco or Eri in short, a student who attended the St. Lucia Academy for Girls during the
1990s. She is portrayed as a troubled and mysterious young woman. Erika suddenly dies under
suspicious circumstances; her ghost is believed to haunt the school. Her presence is felt by many
students, causing fear and confusion. Erika is round because there is a lot of information about her and a
flashback on what life she had.

Joyce – is a troubled student, that wants to banished or leaved the school. She always visiting
Ms. Pat for her session since she suffered depression. She is dynamic because after all she still changed
her behavior and listened to ms. pat’s advice.

Sister Mia - portrayed by Maxene, is a nun who assists Ms. Pat in uncovering the truth. She is
static since she appeared multiple times in the movie but remained the same throughout the storyline.

Julian (Jake Cuenca), a police investigator, enlists Pat’s help to uncover clues from the secretive
students. Julian is static since she appeared throughout the investigation up until to the last scene of the
movie.

6. PLOT

The story begins in 1995, when a student asked her friend to accompany her to the bathroom,
her friends Jo and Michelle hesitated as if they didn’t hear anything. Despite the rumors of a
ghost haunting the school, she decided to go alone. She went to the third-floor bathroom, the
last cubicle in the school where the student had committed suicide. While she was washing her
hands, the ghost of the student appeared, Anna is later discovered by Sor Alice, traumatized, and
physically drained after being harassed by the ghost of Erika.

The scene transitioned where the school officials and students are having their photoshoot."
Sister Mia notices why Ms. Pat appears sad in the photo and asks her. Ms. Pat is contemplating
what happened to Anna, expresses her frustration, questioning why they didn't want her to talk
to Anna after the incident. Sister Mia barge in and asserts that Sor Lice will handle it, suggesting that
she is overthinking the situation.

When Ms. Pat is in her office, Joyce enters. Ms. Pat informs her that they caught Joyce on the rooftop
and confiscates the cigarette from her. She questions Joyce about the purpose of the cigarettes, to which
Joyce responds that they help her stay awake because she is suffering from the incident. Joyce blames
herself, wondering if accompanying Anna would have kept her in Sta. Lucia. Ms. Pat reassures her that
it's not her fault. Joyce expresses frustration about the lack of communication and says, "Ganoon pala
kadaling umalis," wishing she had left long ago. She goes to the rooftop to clear her mind. While Joyce is
talking, Ms. Pat notices that she is hurting herself again. The bell rings, and Joyce gives something to Ms.
Pat. When asked about why she looks sad in the picture, Joyce clarifies that she is not the person in the
picture.

When night falls, Ms. Pat remains in her office. Mang Fidel arrives and hands over the keys to the school
because she works late. This marks the beginning of Ms. Pat's investigation into the student's death,
suspecting there might be more to the story. While organizing her things, she employs an audio recorder
to unravel the mystery. When one of her pens falls, she notices the feet of a student sitting in front of
her desk. It turns out to be Eri, and Ms. Pat engages in a conversation with her. Eri expresses boredom,
mentioning that she has already read all the books in the library, and she asks Ms. Pat to go out of her
office. Ms. Pat seizes the opportunity to inquire about what happened to Anna. Eri responds that she
didn't mean to scare Anna and questions why Ms. Pat is not afraid of her. As Eri leaves, Ms. Pat follows
her, sensing that Eri has something to share. When Ms. Pat reaches the comfort room, she enters and
goes to the last cubicle, where she discovers Eri. Then, Ms. Pat wakes up, realizing that it's already late.

Ms. Pat listens to the recorder of her conversation with Eri before heading home. While walking
in the school yard, she notices Sor Alice watching her. Clara, a student who received a
punishment from Sor Alice, is seen praying late at night. Later, she is found dead in the school
yard.

When they found Clara dead, the investigation led by Julian Castro revealed that Mang Fidel had
killed Clara. During the meeting, Ms. Pat explains that Mang Fidel couldn't have committed the
crime as he has been working at the school for a long time. She insists on talking to the children,
believing they might know something. Sor Alice decides to suspend classes for the day, stating,
"Today we pray, today we mourn," and announces that classes will resume tomorrow in Sta.
Lucia. Sor Alice and Father Darwin want to protect the reputation of the school because Sta.
Lucia holds a prominent position as a Catholic school in the country. That's why they don't want
the news to spread.

Back in her office, Ms. Pat was talking to Joyce when suddenly Julian, the investigator, knocked
on the door, asking Ms. Pat if she could talk to her. They discussed the incident, and Julian gave
her his number, asking if Ms. Pat could gather information from her students. Ms. Pat responded
that some of their conversations are confidential.

The night falls again, Ms. Pat stays in her office late to investigate then she saw the ghost of
Clara. but when she wakes up, she saw Eri running then she follows her into the school’s
laboratory where the butterflies are. When she was talking to her, Eri said, she knows that Ms.
Pat wants to talk to Clara then Eri said that Ms. Pat has a nice voice, it compares her to her
mother’s voice that still ringing to her ears like the nuns shouting to her.
CLIMAX

When Sor Alice ring a bell, she announces in every class that their will be a rule set in the school
and those who will abide will be suspended or worst expelled. She also said that she can protect
the sanctuary of the school with her power. While Ms. Pat listening to her audio recorder about
the conversation of her and Clara, Clara said “Kung dumating man yung oras na yun, tutulungan
kita”

In the corridor, Ms. Pat spotted Sor Alice and hurriedly made her way to the bathroom. She followed Sor
Alice, checking each cubicle. As she approached the last one, she hesitated to open it fully, considering
leaving. However, when she glanced back, she saw Sor Alice's shadow. Ms. Pat turned around and was
shocked by what she witnessed – Sor Alice pulling a rope with a student hanging from it. Suddenly, she
realized it was just another dream.

She immediately called Julian and inquired about a way to talk to Mang Fidel. Julian informed her that
the case involving Mang Fidel was high-profile, making it difficult for anyone to approach him. While
conversing with Julian, Ms. Pat caught sight of news regarding Clara's case. The news reported that
Clara's parents were seeking the death penalty for the accused.
