A heron was walking sedately along the bank of a stream, its eyes on the clear water
and its long neck and pointed bill ready to snap up a likely morsel for its breakfast.
The clear water swarmed with fish, but Master Heron was hard to please that morning.
“No small fry for me,” he said. “Such scanty fare is not fit for a heron.”
Now a fine young perch swam near.
“No indeed.” said the Heron. “I wouldn’t even trouble to open my break for anything
like that!”
As the sun rose, the fish left the shallow water near the shore and swam below into the
cool depths toward the middle. The Heron saw no more fish, and very glad was it at
last to breakfast on a tiny snail.
One cold stormy day a goatherd drove his goats for shelter into a cave, where a
number of wild goats had also found their way. The shepherd wanted to make the wild
goats part of his flock; so he fed them well. Butto his own flock, he gave only just
enough food to keep them alive. When the weather cleared and the shepherd led the
goats out to feed, the wild goats scampered off to the hills.
“Is that their gratitude I get for feeding you and treating you so well?” complained the
shepherd.
“Do not expect us to join your flock,” replied one of the wild goats. ” We know how
you would treat us later on if some strangers should come as we did.”
Once upon a time there lived a man by himself who couldn’t see, in a small town. He
carried a lighted lamp with him whenever he went out at night.
One night as he was coming home after having a dinner outside, he came across a
group of young travellers. They saw that he was blind, yet carrying a lighted lamp.
They were curious and one of them asked him, “Sir, you can’t see anything! Why do
you carry the lamp?” The blind man replied, “Yes, unfortunately, i am blind and i
can’t see anything but a lighted lamp which i am carrying is for the people like you

you wouldn’t be able to reach it.”
The giraffe said arrogantly, “it is impossible? Just watch me.”
Then, the giraffe reared up its long neck, and put out the tongue, but the fruit was just
out of reach.
“I said you couldn’t reach it,” said the monkey. ” But i can.”
Suddenly, the monkey jumped on to the giraffe’s back and scrambled up its neck.
Then monkey said, “We could not do it alone, but we can do it together.”
After that, the tallest giraffe didn’t boast anymore, and it became best friend of
monkey.
There were once two brothers who lived on the edge of a forest. The elder brother was
very mean to his younger brother and ate up all the food and took all his good clothes.
One day, the elder brother went into the forest to find some firewood to sell in the
market. As he went around chopping the branches of a tree after tree, he came upon a
magical tree. The tree said to him, “Oh kind Sir, please do not cut my branches. If you
spare me, i will give you my golden apples.”
The elder brother agreed but was disappointed with the number of apples the tree gave
him. Greed overcame him, and he threatened to cut the entire trunk if the tree didn’t
give him more apples. The magical tree showered upon the elder brother hundreds
upon hundreds of tiny needles. The elder brother laid on the ground crying in pain as
the sun began to lower down the horizon.

him with hundreds of needles on his skin. He rushed to his brother and removed each
needle with painstaking love. After he finished, the elder brother apologized for

Long ago a mouse and a frog were friends. Every morning the frog would hop out of
its pond and go to visit its friend who lived in a hole in the side of a tree. It would
return home at noon.
The mouse delighted in its friend’s company was unaware that the friend was slowly
turning into an enemy. The frog felt slighted because though it visited the mouse
every day, the mouse on its part, had never made an attempt to visit it.
One day the frog felt it had been humiliated enough. When it was time for the frog to
take leave of the mouse, it tied one end of a string around its own leg, tied the other
end to the mouse behind it.
The frog dived deep into the pond. The mouse tried to free itself, but couldn’t and
soon drowned. Its bloated body floated to the top.
A hawk saw the mouse floating on the pond’s surface. It swooped down, and grabbing

She became very sad and cried every day. The old parents couldn’t understand why.
On a full moon night, she decided to explain why she cried. She told the parents that
she had to leave home and return to the moon. She was frustrated for a long time
because the time for her departure had come. The moonbeams arrived to transport her
back to the moon. She said goodbye to her old parents and gave then an elixir of life

and eat the loser.
“What fools we are to be fighting like this,” said the lion.
“We’ll only end up as food for villainous vultures and crows,” said the bear.
