Open rope shunting installations:

Capstans with open rope and connecting slings are low-cost solutions for simple
shunting jobs with small trains or individual rail cars and for low operating frequencies.

Shunting spill
The spill is a simple, movable shunting system for use with individual rail cars and
small groups of cars as well as for other interdepartmental moving jobs.

Shunting winch
The shunting winch is a simple system for track-bound transport, e.g. for the towing
and positioning of wagons at loading and unloading stations.

Shunting system with reversible rope:

A closede loop rope winch system where the rope stays along the shunting range.
Coupling trains is effected via one of the following coupling devices:

Coupling chain (pulling force 30 kN, higher for industrial applications)

The chain is hooked into a wagon’s towing hook or to one of the lateral towing
hooks

Above floor or subfloor towing cart (towing force 30 kN)

Using a coupling rod, the carts hooks to the lateral hook or towing eye. Preferred
for use on tarmac and at storage facilities.

Wheelset cart (towing force 30 kN ; with special permit up to 60 kN)

The wheelset cart is a remotely controlled shunting unit which moves within the rail
track. For the towing phase, extending pressure rollers contact a wheelset.

Buffer cart (towing force up to 240 kN)

The buffer cart couples to the train like a locomotive, viz. via the central towing
hook. Buffer cart systems are used along dead end tracks or at tracks with a
passing track.
