WHY THE POEM IS MEANINGFUL:

We believe this poem is meaningful as it perfectly

depicts the experience of leaving your childhood
behind along with the indescribable sensation we get
when revisiting those old memories . The keyword here
is reliability , when someone reads this poem , they are
able to easily empathise with the poet and thus a
strong wave of emotions rushes over their minds
when reading it, it may even be enough to trigger the
reader's own memories of his / her childhood . This is
why we think this is such a meaningful poem
The literary devices used in the poem also helps to
enhance the effect of the poem . For example," A word,
a memory will raise it up." and "From where it had
quietly lain ." Tells us that if it had been for a specific
event, the poet would not have likely thought about
his/ her childhood.
"I have grown up and gone away " Which is a
transferred epithet , shows us that the poet has
indeed grown out of his / her childhood and cannot
make new childhood memories . He / She can only
reminisce about them .
" Ancient dust" which is a oxymoron, shows us that
the poet's memories of his / her childhood is old, and
thus have collected "ancient dust". To be able to
remember such old recollection tells us that the poet
holds these memories very dearly.
