Q.1. Write any two differences between the following. [2*5=10]


(i) Specification and standard
(ii) Variable and attribute

(iv) Scatter plot and radial plot

Q.2. What are the maturity stages and measurement categories proposed by Phip B.Crosby in
quality management maturity grid? [5]

Q.3. The mean time to assemble a product as found from a sample of size 40 is 10.4 minutes. The
standard deviation of the assembly times is known to be 1.2 minutes.
(i) Find the two-sided 90% confidence interval for the mean assembly time, and interpret
it.
(ii) Find a two-sided 99% confidence interval for the mean assembly time, and interpret it
(iii) The manager in charge of the assembly line believes that the mean assembly time is
less than 10.8 min. Can he make this conclusion at a significance level α of 0.05?

Q.4. A small-scale industry wishes to estimate the mean annual sales of companies that employ
fewer than 20 persons. Historical suggest that the standard deviation of annual sales of such
companies Rs.4,40,000.

(i) If the industry wants to estimate mean annual sales to within Rs.80,000 with a
probability of 0.90, how large a sample should be chosen?

(ii) Suppose that the industry wishes to detect mean annual sales to within Rs.40,000 with
a probability of 0.95. How large the sample should be chosen? [2 + 3 = 5]
