Secondary Research for what podcasts teenagers are interested in:

It is known that ages 12-34 is the age range that is most likely to listen to a
podcast, and the main genre that this age range listen to is comedy.Then it is
news, culture and taking forth place is crime. Apparently the most popular
podcast that teenagers listen to is The Daily, which is one of the most
downloaded podcasts of all time. The Daily is produced by the New York
Times and every episode engages in the biggest stories from around the
world. In January 2021 there was a survey taken of 1606 young people aged
11-18, 1 in 5 of these people stated that they listen to podcasts in their free
time.

The younger generation is leading the way with podcasts listening and in
2021 a report found that 73% of people in the UK aged 16-34 are familiar with
podcasts rather than people older which was only 54%. 2 in 5 younger
children stated that listening to podcasts would help them engage and
understand their lessons better during school including those who don't listen
to podcasts in their free time. Another survey was taken and they asked
young people why they decided to listen to podcasts in their free time 3 in 5
students said that listening to podcasts because it helps them multitask and
carry out other activities such as homework or exercise and 1 in 2 students
stated that they find podcasts interesting some other students said more
different answers such as that they find them calming and help them zone
out.

I decided to go onto another website and tried to find out what sort
of topics teenagers find interesting within a podcast. Through this
website I found out that a podcast aimed at teens usually involves
news stories,pop culture,sports and fashion. Now I know that true
crime doesn't necessarily come up here, however a case could be
considered as a news story as it may be relevant and new. Here is

I found that podcast listeners in the United Kingdom have been

increasing a lot over the past years with an estimated 21.2 million
listeners in 2022.This popularity in podcasts is shown through a
survey from 2021 in which 71% of respondents said that they were
familiar with podcasts while 41% had listened to a podcast within
the month prior to the survey. With the UK reaching podcast
consumption levels similar to other big markets such as the United
States, podcast publishers become more important as they benefit
from a growing number of streams and downloads.

The median age for all podcast listeners is 38, and the two favourite
genres for an adult audience are comedy and News. However
comedy is the top genre of podcasts for adults aged 18-34 followed
by society & culture, news and true crime. For older listeners 55+
news is at the top.

In regards to gender, men make up the largest share of podcast

listeners with 55% of all listeners. Although men and women make up
an equal share of listeners to genres such as fiction. Men account for
a full 81% of sports and technology podcast listeners, while women
account for the majority share of kids & family 77% and health and
fitness podcast audience.

I found this image and I found it quite interesting to see the

statistics for each genre of podcasts. With true crime being at 9% I
thought that was quite good and I feel that people within this age
range would listen to my podcast as it is a genre some do listen to
and I feel that seeing this visual aspect helped me to understand
which genres are more popular than others and what younger
people are more interested in at the moment.
