THE ASSIGNED UNIT

INFRA DEPARTMENT

In my on-the-job training at SEMPHIL, I was assigned to the INFRA

Department at Utility 2 Building. This department is consist of four operation the

Mechanical Operation, Electrical Operation, Projects and Planning. In Mechanical

Operation they operate the cooling system, water and air supply of the SEMPHIL. In

Electrical Operation it handle the electrical supply of SEMPHIL. In Projects it is divided

into 3 the Mechanical, Civil and Electrical. In mechanical it’s handle the ducting of the

exhaust and ahu supply air ducting, piping’s of the water and air. In electrical it is the one

that work the electrical wiring of the new projects and the internet cables of the

SEMPHIL. And in the planning they are the one that checks the updates of as-built of the

buildings and manage the cost or estimate the new projects that has been approved of

the part manager.

DUITES / TASK ASSSIGNED

We attended an orientation during my first week at Samsung Electro-

Mechanics Philippines, Corps, before getting approved for our individual departments

and processes. The opening three days of the orientation program offered by the HR

department or People's Group, it was important to understand the business, as well as

the fundamental laws, security, and health protocols. The Safety, Health, and

Environment (SHE) group discusses Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) on the

second day of orientation. It is important for the company, each other because it was

mandated by RA 110581 and because it ensures the safety of every single employee. It

cite the fact that they created a list of things to prevent and installed safety guards on
each machine for several forms of safety, such as fire safety, chemical safety, and

machine safety.

After the orientation it was the exciting part of the OJT time for our endorsement

in our designated department and process. I was endorse in the Infra Department, first

we met Sir Jayson the department manager of the Infra department welcome us and

introduced us to our supervisors and our mentor technicians. In our first month we are

assigned in Mechanical Operation the part manager of it is Sir Jupiter, He introduced us

to the supervisors and technician. They teach us the diagram of how the cooling system

works and familiarize the machines and equipment’s that they use. The cooling system

is compose of cooling tower, turbo chiller, and AHU (Air Handling Unit) & MAU (Make-

up Air Unit). The work cooling tower is remove the heat of the water and the turbo chiller

the one that makes the chilled water and the chilled water it goes to the Ahu & Mau that

makes a cool air that supply the building of SEMPHIL. They also teach us the parts of

turbo chiller they are the condenser, evaporator, compressor, control panel and

expansion valve. They also teach the difference between Ahu & Mau, the Ahu has a

return supply air from the production and the Mau does not have a return supply air.

The parts of the two are the same they are copper tube, fan blower and air pre & final

filter. The everyday task that given to me is checking and monitoring the data

parameters of the turbo chiller, cooling tower, pumps and the supply pressure of the

chilled water, we monitor it hourly to check if the equipment’s reach the assigned set

point and need to be add another backup equipment. I am also assigned in the

maintenance of the Ahu and Mau, the task here is when there is a call from the

production that need to adjust the room temperature, we are the one who fix that and
also the maintenance of them like changing the belt of the motor fan blower and

cleaning the filter of Ahu and Mau. The second month of our OJT I was assigned in the

projects; Ms. Emelyn introduce me to sir Herson the supervisor of the mechanical

projects. My first week here is just familiarization of the mechanical project that they are

working and Sir Herson introduced me to the contractors, they are the ones who work

the given mechanical projects. My daily task in here is check the updates of the

ongoing mechanical projects in P1 building to P4 building and get some documentations

of it and make a report of the job done and findings and submit it to Sir Herson. And the

third or last month of my OJT I was assigned in planning, I was introduced to Sir

Raymund he is the supervisor and Ma’am Shanelle, Ma’am Kate and Ma’am Maris they

are the ones who give us task to do. Our task that we do is check the as-built of all the

building in SEMPHIL and also updates the locations of the CCTV, emergency light and

exit, smoke detector, speaker and fire alarms of all the building in SEMPHIL.

ASSESSMENT OF THE ON THE JOB TRAINIING EXPERIENCE

Insights gained about the actual operation in the process

In 3 months of my OJT in SEMPHIL, I learn so many things like the cooling

system of SEMPHIL and maintaining a clean, safe and secure working environment of

all employees. I also familiarized all process in all the building in SEMPHIL, Data

gathering of the parameters of the machines and equipment’s.

New development of skills/competencies

I had developed skills, competencies and knowledge in the actual course

training, such gathering of data parameters and maintenance of the machine and
equipment also learning how the cooling system of Samsung works, learn some

electrical circuit sequence, analytical skills, analyzing the floor plan of SEMPHIL, and

how to operate machine.

Usefulness of other technological courses to the training

Being one of the technologist student and a machinist student I can say that our

knowledge that we gain from school is our advantage wherein I can easily understand

some functions of the machine and how to work with it also the tools and its function in

repairing.

What I like the best and least in the training program

I totally appreciate this training program such it helps me a lot on how to live

outside the box of not being a student anymore that I am entering a new level of life.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The cooperating agency

Based on what I've learned, I recommend that the agency base the trainee's

course and competence on their assignment area. This is not a significant problem,

though, because we are gaining new knowledge and skills that are not taught at our

school.

The would-be student-trainees, if they want to make the most of the training

experience

I highly endorse this company since it will provide them the opportunity to work

on a real project that will complement their studies, just like I did in the infrastructure

departments.
The faculty members handling the course to further improve learning experience

I would suggest the faculty to improve the curriculum for courses that would be

more effective in training. If at all possible, include classes on new and sophisticated

technology.
