School Year 2019-2020/ 5th Grade Science Project

Teacher Lucianny Filión

Problem statement:
Difficulty of 5th grade students in understanding the general functioning of the Circulatory
System Structure. Problem formulation: Explain, based on the following questions,
students' concerns about this topic.

1.- What is the Circulatory System?

2.- How is the Circulatory formed?
3.- What is the main function of the Circulatory System?
4.- What models can we use to explain the functioning of Circulatory System?

General Objective:

Explain the circulatory system in humans by analyzing the functions of the heart, blood
vessels and blood, pointing to hypertension as a factor that puts the circulatory system
at risk.

Specific objectives:

a. Describe the function of the circulatory system.

b. Describe the composition of blood.

c. Describe and state the function of each of the cellular components of the blood.

d. Compare and contrast whole blood, plasma and serum.

e. Describe the structures and functions of the different chambers of the heart.

f. State the only vein which carries oxygenated blood.

g. State the only artery which carries deoxygenated blood.

h. Describe the structures, function, and type of blood (venous and arterial) of the
different types of blood vessels: arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venues and
veins.
i. Describe the flow of blood through the cardiovascular system.
j. Define hemostasis and coagulation.
k. State the three pathways for the coagulation process and where the factors for
each are found or produced.
l. List and describe each of the five steps in the hemostatic process known as
coagulation.
m. List the laboratory tests which aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of the
circulatory system.

Justification

Based on the established information, the project seeks to achieve a broad knowledge
about Circulatory System based on the use of teaching materials that exemplify its
structure and operation.
